Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman was recommended to me by a friend. It is the best book that I’ve read this year. Now 30 years old, we learn that Eleanor suffered a traumatic experience when she was 10 that scarred her both physically and emotionally. Although she has a job as an accountant at a graphic design company in Glasgow, Scotland, she is completely isolated, has no friends, and drinks herself into a vodka stupor on weekends. When her work comput...er develops a problem, Raymond from the firm’s IT department arrives to repair it. Thus begins a friendship that completely turns Eleanor’s life aroundand unlocks the mystery of her past. The quirky characters and plot remind me of two other memorable books that I really loved: The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce and Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand by Helen Simonson. There’s something about novels set in English country villages that appeal. #rostraverlibrary #StaffPickSaturday

Today is Appreciate A Dragon Day! Laura has picked out Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke to celebrate. This juvenile book is just right for those who are fans of classic fantasy books like Harry Potter, Narnia, and Spiderwick.
