This year we have been graced by a rarity! Meet our piebald fawn. The actual condition is called leucism, and in biological terms an animal that possesses leucism is said to be leucistic. It is the result of a recessive gene that both parents must carry. Deer with this condition are generally called piebalds, and both terms can be used. In addition to its unusual coat, a piebald deer may have other issues including bowing of the nose, overbite, short legs, an arching spine, and deformed internal organs, but our fawn seems to be doing just fine. We would like to thank Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation for helping fund the renovation of the concession building to a nature center. This Sunday volunteers came out to help us paint the exterior and we are very so very happy with how it came out! Thank you!
