We are continuously assessing the needs of our community as they relate to fire protection and how we can best meet them. For example, what areas of training need improvement? Or, how can we best upgrade our equipment to provide better service. One area which has gotten our attention is the ability to deliver enough water to a fire scene. Less than half of our Township has hydrants. The rest depends upon trucks pumping from ponds and streams or for tankers to deliver the... water. There are neighborhoods where it is a challenge to deliver the needed amount of water. One area is along West and East Mountain Road and Mahantongo Street. We were given an opportunity to address that when Daniel Kaufman cleaned out the pond on his farm. The Fire Company, Mr. Kaufman, and Hubley Twp. joined together to install a dry hydrant while the pond was refilling. Fire engines can access the hydrant via a new driveway. The dry hydrant will allow an engine to set up quicker and without concern of being stuck. The end result is a SIGNIFICANT increase in the amount of water we can get to a fire if one should occur. We’d like to thank each and every one of you who have supported our online raffles during this time. Your contributions played a large role in this project. We’d also like to thank Hubley Township and Mr Kauffman!
REMINDER Don’t forget to grab your calendar from Chuck Rissinger today at the firehouse from 10-1!
