Advocate Spotlight Brianna Vollmer, Director of Training, shares how her perspective as a former high school teacher informs her advocacy: I remember sitting at Admitted Students day three years ago and learning about SDAS. At that point, I was not certain which law school I would attend; however, once I learned more about the program, there was no doubt in my mind that Temple was the place for me. I am a former high school English teacher, and truthfully, I always had... a mangled relationship with discipline. When you're teaching in an under-resourced school, with classes averaging 30-35 students, harsh discipline sometimes felt like the only way to "handle" one disruptive student, allowing you to focus your attention on the 29 others. I think this perspective--knowing that teachers, with the best intentions, often find themselves doling out discipline because they are told/see it as the only option--informs my advocacy. Last year, I was the Program Director. My main goal was to expand our reach into communities so SDAS could help more students. This year, as Director of Training, I hope to help advocates become comfortable with the hearing process while also finding their unique style of advocacy. See more
