Former Sierra Group Academy student, Fannie Skelton, passed away on April 26th, 2020. Fannie first came to The Academy in the early 2000s where her aim was to secure an administrative job after graduating. She achieved this goal when she took a position as an Executive Assistant with the Mayor’s Commission on Disabilities, where she worked for 9 years. Charles Horton, former Commissioner on Disability had this to say about Fannie’s lasting impact in this role, Fannie was the... never wavering supporter and glue that helped the office achieve its objectives. Through her work, she created a silent legacy that lives in so many people. Remembered for her strong sense of community, Fannie was always one to pull us all together, uniting forces to advocate for anyone in need. Seth Acosta, Chief Operating Officer with The Sierra Group, had these thoughts, When I think back on Fannie, the one word that continues to resonate in my mind is community. She was the fabric of her community, whatever that was at the time. Fannie’s generosity and happy spirit will always be in the hearts of those who knew her best.
