The Bridge Pose...what is it and what can it do for you? The Bridge Pose is a powerful tonic for body and mind. It provides an invigorating stretch for the chest, neck and spine. Traditionally, its benefits are said to also include: Calming the mind and alleviating stress and mild depression Stimulating abdominal organs, lungs and thyroid Rejuvenating tired legs... Improving digestion Relieving the symptoms of menopause Reducing anxiety, fatigue, backache, headache and insomnia How to Perform the Bridge Pose Begin in supine position on floor. If necessary, place a folded blanket or yoga mat under shoulders to protect upper back and neck. With bent knees, place feet flat on the floor and parallel, no more than hip-width apart. Keep arms to the side of your body with palms on the floor for stability. Exhale and slowly lift hips toward the ceiling, keeping the knees and thighs parallel. Engage the muscles of your lower back, buttocks, thighs and abdomen to keep the body taut and firm. Lift the hips until the body is flat from chest to knees. Keep the neck loose by lifting the chin away from the body. This movement will help you to avoid placing too much strain on the neck. Maintain the pose for 30 seconds to one minute. Once you are ready to release, exhale and slowly roll the spine down starting from the neck and ending at the hips, one vertebra at a time. Repeat the pose once more if your body feels comfortable - GO TAKE A NEW YOGA CLASS AND TRY THAT BRIDGE POSE... your body and mind will thank you!!!

What is Tumeric and why should you use it?? I use this in every dish while it will turn your veggies yellowish there is really no taste... it has so many uses to improved brain function to a great anti-inflmmatory for those with joint or digestive issues. Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is a rhizome related to ginger, and is the main spice in curry and is what makes American mustard yellow. The major active constituents of turmeric are curcuminoids, including curcumin, which have... been shown to have anti-inflammatory activity and may be the reason why India (where curry is popular) has such a low incidence of unhealthy brain function in its elderly population. The anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric may also be useful in addressing joint pain and inflammation. Turmeric also has been used to treat symptoms of upset stomach, inflammatory skin conditions and depression. Whole turmeric is more effective than isolated curcumin, its major constituent. Look for products standardized for 95% curcuminoids. Neither curcumin nor turmeric taken orally is well absorbed unless taken with black pepper or piperine, a constituent of black pepper responsible for its pungency. When shopping for supplements, make sure that the one you choose contains black pepper extract or piperine. (If you're cooking with turmeric, be sure to add some black pepper to the food.). Be patient when taking turmeric supplements: the full benefits may not be apparent for eight weeks.

Why is Olive Oil Heart Healthy?? Olive oil, once used in the U.S. primarily by immigrants from Mediterranean countries and adventurous gourmets, is now mainstream. Americans today consume roughly 10 times the amount consumed in four decades ago. This is good news, as olive oil has the highest percentage of heart-healthy monounsaturated fat of any edible oil, and quality brands contain abundant antioxidants - substances that have been shown to provide cardiovascular and anti-c...ancer effects. When choosing olive oil, it is recommended buying small bottles of certified organic, extra virgin olive oil. Check the label for the ICEA (Istituto per la Certificazione Etica e Ambientale, which means Ethical and Environmental Certification Institute) logo, and that of another organic certification body such as the USDA's green-and-white ORGANIC logo. Quality extra virgin olive oil should have a natural peppery finish and a deep, "green" aroma of grass and artichoke. Such oils are not cheap, because they rely on careful cultivation that preserves olive oil's legendary taste and health benefits. But the reward is more than worth it. See more

5 Tips for Healthy Weight Maintaining a healthy weight can help reduce your risk of heart attack and stroke. While we all know the "secret" of successful weight loss is to eat less and exercise more, it's not always easy to implement. But by adopting healthy eating habits and a regular exercise routine, you are sure to lose weight without depriving yourself of nourishing, satisfying food. And if you continue those good habits after you reach your goal, you will have an excell...ent chance of maintaining your desired weight. Here are some tips for successful weight loss: Avoid artificial sweeteners and products containing "fat substitutes." Their safety is questionable, they don't help you develop good eating habits and they have never been proven to aid in weight loss. Dietary supplements or "fat-burning herbs" are usually just stimulants - don't rely on them. The pounds will surely return once you've stopped taking them. Build lean body mass. Strength training burns excess calories, promotes healthy metabolism and influences the way your brain regulates hunger, making you less susceptible to food cravings. Pay attention to the mental and spiritual aspects of weight control and your relationship with food. Use relaxation exercises - instead of food - to combat anxiety. Accept your body. You may see it as less than perfect, but it is beautiful just the same.
