SpiriTrust Lutheran hosted its first Celebration of Life and Hospice Tree of Light services in York on December 5. The solemn remembrance of those who have gone before us included the lighting of the Hospice Tree of Light, allowing guests to enjoy the beauty of the lights that were dedicated in memory or honor of loved ones. Earlier in the week a similar service was held in Chambersburg and last week a service was held in Gettysburg. As we illumine this tree in remembrance ...of those for whom we mourn, illumine our hearts with the light of your love. May each light be a sign of each one we have held dear and who now rest in you. And may we, and all who see its glow, be reminded that your light shines in our darkness. And the darkness has not overcome it. Amen. -Prayer of Illumination read by The Rev. Thanks to Bartlett Tree Experts - Willie and Matt in York and Adam in Gettysburg - for stringing lights on our Trees of Light! The photo below shows our enormous tree in York, which is sure to light up the neighborhood during the Celebration of Life and Hospice Tree of Light service on Thursday, December 5. Services will also take place Tuesday, November 26 in Gettysburg and Tuesday, December 3 in Chambersburg. Everyone in the community is invited to attend at no charge. Last Wednesday 67-year old Ric Baxter, MD visited SpiriTrust Lutheran Home Care & Hospice in Chambersburg, one of many stops on his Don’t Wait bike tour across the state. Baxter’s stop in Chambersburg is part of an 800-mile trans-Pennsylvania solo bike trip that began and will end at St. Luke’s University Hospital Network’s (SLUHN) Hospice House in Saucon Valley. Throughout September, the SLUHN hospice and palliative medicine specialist has been visiting hospice facilities..., family, friends and public institutions, many in out-of-the-way places, taking an urgent message to the people he meets along the way: Don’t Wait. Don’t wait to seek medical care, which can keep you healthy, make you stronger or bring you comfort if you are facing a complex or terminal illness. To people who are facing complex illnesses or their final days, Dr. Baxter advises them to request Palliative or Hospice Care, which has been shown to both prolong life and make the final days more valuable.
