Hello everyone! This week we are starting a new series where our expert compounders will tell us about their favorite compounds we make. To start us off is Dr. Rosemary Mihalko, owner and pharmacist of Hieber's Pharmacy. "My favorite compound we make is a bi-phasic gel which uses a base called poloxamer. It is a liquid at refrigerated temperatures and becomes solid at body temperature. This is really cool for making medication for dog's ears. We can make a gel of you...r pet's medication in this base which can be placed into the ear. From just ONE dose, it can gradually deliver a week's worth of medicine. Head shakes, scratching, chasing - your pup still gets the treatment they need with much less hassle! It can be used on skin too for both animals and humans. I just think it is the coolest base and shows the interesting uses of compounding!" See more

The Hieber’s family, both past and present, was saddened to hear of the passing of Joe Bettinger on Friday, July 24. Joe purchased the pharmacy in 2000 and was the owner until his retirement in 2019. Joe’s focus on quality, training, and keeping the pharmacy up to date on the latest technology and trends allowed Hieber’s to continue to serve its patients and the community over the last two decades. In particular, Joe’s keen interest in compounding helped to position Hieber’...s as a recognized name in the medical community. Early in his career as a pharmacist, Joe observed a need for the ability to deliver medications to those who could not take them by conventional means. This exemplified how Joe saw his role as pharmacist; not only as a career, but as a way to truly help patients. Joe strived to do everything he could to help every person who walked through the door. He was a compassionate, caring man who treated everyone like family, even those he had just met.
