When people ask, What makes St. Laurentius such a special place? We say...it’s moments like this! When working on a recent bacteria lab, Mr. Andrew Notarfrancesco mentioned that it would be really amazing to have an incubator for future science experiments. The 7th grade students went home, put their heads together, spoke to their parents and raised money to buy a new incubator for their beloved teacher! Today they surprised him with his gift. ... This is what makes our school so special. Our families generously support us, and our staff members love and care for our children as their own. We have students who take initiative and ENJOY learning. In fact, they are already planning their next microbiology lab! We love our Catholic STREAM school in Fishtown!!

We are getting up and moving on this rainy Monday morning! At St. Laurentius School, we care for the holistic growth of each and every childacademically, emotionally, spiritually and physically. The Department of Health and Human Services recommends that children age 6 and older need at least one hour per day of physical activity. Regular physical activity improves cognitive function, such as thinking and memory skills. Our students receive this important physical activity in gym class as well as our socially distanced, outdoor recess every day. *Air* High Fives for our Fabulous Third Grade

Our chicken eggs have arrived in 1st grade! Our first grade class is learning about the life cycle of the chicken which, as part of the STREAM curriculum, is integrated into science, reading/ELA, and writing instruction. Our students are excited to watch science come alive in their classroom and even came up with very creative names for the chicks: Lemon, Sunshine, Believe, Rosie, Snowflake, and Miss Fogel Jr. We can't wait to see which egg will hatch first! ... #STREAM #Fishtown #ArchdioceseofPhiladelphia #Catholicschools

Our 8th Grade class at St. Laurentius School celebrated the sacrament of Confirmation last night. With the strengthening of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, these Confirmandi are able to accept new responsibilities for witnessing Jesus to the world. Congratulations to the 8th grade class. We are so proud of how hard you worked to prepare for this holy sacrament. You see, the new things of God are not like the novelties of this world, all of which are temporary; they come an...d go, and we keep looking for more. The new things which God gives to our lives are lasting, not only in the future, when we will be with him, but today as well. God is even now making all things new; the Holy Spirit is truly transforming us, and through us he also wants to transform the world in which we live. Let us open the doors to the Spirit, let ourselves be guided by him, and allow God’s constant help to make us new men and women, inspired by the love of God which the Holy Spirit bestows on us! How beautiful it would be if each of you, every evening, could say: Today at school, at home, at work, guided by God, I showed a sign of love towards one of my friends, my parents, an older person! How beautiful! Pope Francis’ Homily from the Holy Mass with the Rite of Confirmation, April 28, 2013, St. Peter’s Square

Our Pre-Kindergarten students are learning all about pumpkins this week! They can identify the parts of a pumpkin and the life cycle of a pumpkin. Our early childhood curriculum integrates disciplines and connects students’ learning to the world around them.

The seventh grade designed and conducted a bacteria lab yesterday. They first swabbed a surface and then their Petri dishes in an attempt to see if any bacteria will grow. Using the STREAM curriculum, we love to see our students’ curiosity blossom as they ask important questions and conduct experiments to try to find the answers. #STREAM #FISHTOWN #AOP
