Sterling Business & Technology Park

Happy New Year! We continued to make progress in the Sterling Business & Technology Park in 2020 and believe that 2021 will be a good year for the business park. Here are a few of the events, projects and improvements that happened in 2020: Less than a half mile from the business park at Exit 17, an IHOP restaurant opened in January bringing more traffic from I-84 into the area, increasing exposure for the business park.... The first high speed fiber connection to the Southern Wayne Broadband Expansion project was established in the Sterling Business & Technology Park. This project provides high speed fiber internet connectivity and adds LHTC Broadband, in addition to Adams Cable, PennTeleData, and Verizon, to the list of Internet Service Providers providing fiber connectivity to the business park. The second half of Innovation Drive was paved, completing a key requirement of Phase 2 development. Sutphen East shipped its 100th fire truck from its manufacturing location in the Sterling Business & Technology Park. The move to Wayne County, Pennsylvania from New York in 2017 resulted in higher levels of production and reduced operating costs for the company. A lease was secured for lot 9 to be used as a 4 acre laydown yard through the fall of 2021. Lot 2 is shovel ready for up to a 20,000 SF building. All permits and land development plans are in place and work can begin shortly after purchasing the property. Utilities are located at the property line. Lot 3 is shovel ready for a 40,600 SF building. Building pad and storm water controls are in place. Land development plans are approved and include parking as well as a separate truck loading dock and parking area. Utilities are located at the property line. Land development plans are in progress for Lot 7 (30 acres) for up to a 250,000 building and Lot 8 (12 acres) for up to a 120,000 SF building. Plans for both sites should be completed this Spring. Interest in the park increased in the last half of 2020 with over 80 businesses exploring the possibility of locating in Sterling Business & Technology Park. Sutphen East Ships It's 100th Fire Truck Manufactured in Northeast Pennsylvania Sutphen East, a manufacturer of fire apparatus, completed its 100th fire truck, manufactured at its Wayne County Pennsylvania facility in the Sterling Business & Technology Park. This 3000-gallon pumper/tanker truck with a 600-horsepower engine is custom built for the Community Fire Company in Landingville, Pennsylvania and will be joining their fire apparatus fleet as a multi-use vehicle. The Sut...phen Corporation was established in 1890 with manufacturing locations in Ohio and Pennsylvania. In addition to building custom fire trucks for 130 years, Sutphen East also operates as a service location repairing, servicing, or rebuilding any manufacturer’s fire apparatus. Sutphen East, moved to Pennsylvania after outgrowing their New York State location in late 2016. The move to Northeast Pennsylvania allowed the company to expand operations in order to meet growing demand for their fire trucks. According to General Manager Darryl Rhyne The location in Sterling Business & Technology Park provides the infrastructure we need to expand operations and increase production. Northeast Pennsylvania provides the perfect combination of a talented workforce along with a strong network of local suppliers all in an easily accessible location. While the Sutphen Corporation has built and delivered thousands of apparatus, we are proud to deliver this facility’s 100th apparatus to the Community Fire Company, said Darryl Rhyne, general manager of Sutphen East. Each one of the trucks we have delivered, were built to meet specific needs of fire departments and communities across the country and around the world. Rhyne commented, Our customers find it easier to travel to this location, and with convenient hotels and amenities, our visitors from across the country get a more comfortable, hands-on experience. Sutphen East is one of six manufacturing facilities the Sutphen Corporation operates. Its proximity to the east coast provides new customer opportunities. The Innovation Drive Phase 2 Paving Project is underway this morning and should be completed by the end of next week. This project is one of the requirements of Phase 2 subdivision approval, which provides access to Lot 6 (5.26 acres), Lot 7 (30.37 acres) and Lot 8 (12.96 acres). Leeward is the contractor and funding for the project was provided through the PennDOT Multimodal Fund and WEDCO.
