Hey all today we’ll be taking over the IG stories for our alma mater @ccadedu. We hope you can follow along repost from @ccadedu Congratulations toEmily Kellett (Industrial Design, 2016) and Brian Kellett (Media Studies Still-Based, 2007), co-owners and co-founders of@stumpplants, for being awarded theCreative Entrepreneur Award as part of our 2020 CCAD Alumni Awards. ... These #CCADalumni launched STUMP in 2015, starting with one location in Columbus’ Italian Village neighborhood. In the years since, they’ve opened up a second location in Columbus (German Village) and added STUMP locations to Philadelphia and Savannah, Georgia, bringing their total number of stores to five. Their background in art and design has helped them create shops that are a fresh take on a retail garden store. We asked the pair what advice they have for current students. "Show up early and stay late. Put in extra time while you are surrounded by instructors and CCAD staff who have the skills that you aspire to have yourself. Take advantage of all the amazing resources that you have and push yourself to try out different mediums that might not be directly related to your major." It’s been 100 days since we had to close up our Philly location on March 16th. Whew! what a whirlwind it has been! We’re now open again at 956 N 2nd Street... if you can’t find us just look for the orange barriers! Gaining experience & being willing to adapt are both the best part and, at times, the most painful aspects of being human. The past few months have taught us beyond words about ourselves as owners, about our team and about what the next 50 years of our business might look like. Yesterday we announced having unique IG accounts for each of the cities that we have shops in. Growth for us has never been in our ‘business plan’ but we haven’t let our own inexperience and expec...tations limit what our business wants to become. Simply stated, we are passionate about sharing what we do with new faces and bringing to life new spaces and collaborating with the wonderful people who are on our team. STUMP is our life, our work & we love all of you who support us in so many ways. We are fortunate to not have investors, we own 100% of our company, so we can make changes quickly and efficiently. If you have read this far we’d love to hear about the content you care most about from us. Brian here, For me, words in these times haven’t came easily. Images, stories & personal experience flood our hearts, psyche & news feeds. Through this post I want to share a few members of the black community who have made a large impact on my wife, Emily, my life and our business. [swipe above]... Isaac, @breakingfad, pointed out to me that I could personally be more vocal as someone who is considered a minority [permanently a wheelchair user for the rest of my life]. I’ve dug a little deeper and didn’t sleep over the that thought, as I’m not fully comfortable fighting for those who can’t in my own minority community. For me these words are buried deep - so I hope that we might all learn from the Black Lives Matter movement to support the black community and be supportive as a collective of people all trying speak up against hate, inequality and for what the future should look like. Dear Savannah, You won our hearts over the first night that we met. We are so pleased to now be a part of your community - amongst many of the kindest people & fellow business owners we have ever met. We will open our doors this Saturday on May 30th at 11am at 1612 Bull Street. All of our locations were dreamed up after we fell in love with the community first. It’s the people who enter our doors that gives us purpose and encouragement to continue sharing the wonderful world... of what it means to be a ‘plant person’ and we love helping people become those who will admit that they ‘used to kill plants but now they have learned how to read and understand what their plants need.’ Please note we will allow a limited number of guests in the shop at one time in respect to social distancing guidelines.
