Meet our first Hometown Hero, ICU Nurse, Kaitlyn. Meeting her and learning her story reinforced why we are doing this. An excerpt from her nomination read: She deserves a nomination because of her enormous heart. She calls me crying after a 12-hour shift because the patients are suffering alone. I am so proud of her hard work, and so touched by her kindness. Her heart is in this profession and she, among all nurses, deserves to be recognized." Kaitlyn brought her adorable d...aughter to her hero portrait session. It was lovely to capture their connection. Said Kaitlyn about her role, I have worked as an ICU nurse for 15 years, and I’ve yet to see anything like this. Every one of the patients we care for are so incredibly sick. The hardest part is seeing the patients so isolated. I’m holding their hands, fully dressed in PPE so they can only see my eyes through a plastic shield. It is hard to make connections this way, and it is so upsetting. Thank you, Kaitlyn!
