Saint Vincent College Gilbert and Sullivan Players 22.01.2021

Despite the fact that we cannot be together at this time, we wanted to take a moment to recognize a very special group of club members: our G&S senior class of 2020. From starring in shows to serving on the executive board, this year's seniors led the G&S Players through successful show after show, keeping us laughing the whole way. As this would have been the weekend of our spring musical, we thought it was only right that they should get to have their final bow. That's why we will be posting senior spotlights to highlight their accomplishments and thank them for their contributions. We hope you will join us in congratulating them on all of their successes, both on stage and off.

Our next senior spotlight is club secretary, Mike Doelling. Mike has performed with Saint Vincent Gilbert and Sullivan Players throughput his four years of college. He started off as Dr. Dobb in the production of The Misfortunate Mishaps of Frederick Foggerty. He later played Colonel O’Fipp in The Life, Death, and Life of Tom Cobb. Mike’s favorite role which made the best memories was that of the Lord Chancellor in the 2019 Spring Musical Iolanthe. Later that semester, the c...lub elected Mike as Secretary. Mike then served as producer for the 2019 Fall play Randall’s Thumb. Mike excitedly prepared for the part of Giuseppe with his best friend Mike Mondock as Marco for the upcoming show The Gondoliers before it was canceled due to the pandemic. Mike would like to thank the club for welcoming him to the Saint Vincent Community and it will forever remain a cherished memory in his heart. He also thanks all his family, friends, and fans for supporting him and making him laugh throughout his college career.

Our first senior spotlight is club president Micaela Kreuzwieser. Micaela, an English major with a concentration in Creative Writing, began performing with the Saint Vincent College Gilbert & Sullivan Players during the 2016 fall semester of her freshman year as "Aunt Bogle" in the Gilbert play The Misfortunate Mishaps of Frederick Foggerty. She followed up this successful foray into G&S by appearing as an ensemble member, one of Mabel Stanley's sisters, in the club's 2017 s...pring musical The Pirates of Penzance, and then as Franny, wife of Walter, in G&S's 2017 fall play The Life and Death and Life of Tom Cobb. Micaela then took a break from acting with G&S when she served as Assistant Director for the 2018 spring musical The Sorceror, and then took the position of Director for both the 2018 fall play The Importance of Being Earnest and the 2019 spring musical Iolanthe. Rejoining the acting fold once more, Micaela played the role of Edith Temple in the 2019 fall play Randall's Thumb; she was also cast as Tessa in the Players' planned 2020 spring musical The Gondoliers before the current COVID-19, unfortunately, shut down production. Micaela also served as the club Secretary during her junior year of 2018-19 and as the club President for her senior year of 2019-20. Micaela's favorite memories of the club involve a certain cake rehearsal scene and misinterpreted stage direction (Your Christian names!) from the production of Earnest as well as staying up late into the night blocking the Act I and II Finale scenes of Iolanthe in empty Alfred classrooms with her fellow hardworking and devoted temp board and club members. Despite the current circumstances, Micaela is grateful for her experiences and memories made and shared with her fellow club members, and wishes them well, both in their personal futures and that of the club. Micaela would also like to thank her family, especially her sister Arielle for sharing club membership with her, and her fiance Tyler for their perpetual encouragement and support for her ambitions and love of the theatre. We regret to inform you that due to the campus closure in response to COVID-19, the G&S Players will NOT be performing a spring musical in 2020. While we are disappointed that we are not able to perform our show, we appreciate the steps that the college has taken to ensure the health and safety of our community. Please stay safe and healthy. We hope to perform for you again soon.

"You are the victim of this clumsy arrangement, having been born in leap-year, on the twenty-ninth of February; And so, by a simple arithmetical process, you’ll easily discover, That though you’ve lived twenty-one years, yet, if we go by birthdays, you’re only five and a little bit over!" - The Pirate King #LeapDay #ThePiratesOfPenzance

It's awesome to see one of our very own alums from 2013 still performing in G&S shows! If you get the chance, make sure you check out the Pittsburgh Savoyards' production of The Mikado this March. We're all super excited to see the show!
