Are you 65 years or older and have a diagnosis of Dementia or Mild Cognitive Impairment? Do you sometimes have trouble completing everyday tasks like managing medicine, getting exercise, walking the dogs, or calling your kids? If so, our Virtual Kitchen Intervention study is aimed at practicing on a non-immersive virtual reality task to see if it helps improve performance on real-life everyday tasks. This study takes place over 8 sessions (about 5 weeks total) and you will be compensated if you chose to participate! For more information please review the attached flyer. If you are interested in participating please email our lab at [email protected] or call us at (484) 843-1321 to set up a eligibility phone call!

Our lab focuses a lot of research on executive functioning, a term many people outside of psychology might not be familiar with. So, for this weeks #FunFactFriday we explain executive functioning, and how it relates to your everyday life! Our executive functioning skills are thought to be housed in the very front part of our brain, the prefrontal cortex. It is here that these complex mental processes communicate with each other and to other parts of our brain in order for us... to function in our day to day lives! We use executive functioning everyday to help us attain tasks and goals we need to accomplish. For example, in order to make dinner tonight you will need to first decide on a recipe, plan the ingredients you need to use, organize all of the materials, prioritize which step needs to be completed first, and pay attention throughout the whole process in order to cook your meal properly. As you can see, we use many different executive functioning skills to complete one task without even realizing it. Image how many times we use our executive functioning skills in a day!
