This vintage Christmas tablecloth from the 1940s is 52" x 64"....and I can tell you that whoever used it for holiday dinners in the past...was very, very careful and neat, because there are no wine stains, no gravy stains, no cocoa stains...no stains. Perfect condition. $25

Another very special magazine that will take you back in time...this time, to 1872. Godey's Lady's Book was one of the only ways for women to see the fashions and trends of the time. Filled with...well, everything pictured in these photos, and much more. And...when I see something like this old publication...1872...I catch myself and remember that our old store, was in business then! I have to repeat that last sentence....in 1872, when this magazine was published in nearby Philadelphia, our store, then called McCall's Mercantile and Dry Goods was open. Women came in the big front door and purchased fabric. Now, a million years later...not much has changed. Women are coming in the big front door and purchasing fabric. The black and white photo...a small and grainy photo of the store, around 1900. $25

Some things for gentlemen...(and as I write this, I actually take that back, because these things are nice for men and for women, so sorry about that.)

Who wants to go back in time with me...to 1890? Because if you did, you might be sitting on a settee in your parlor right this minute, browsing through a copy of Peterson's Magazine. Peterson's was primarily a ladies' magazine, but I'm sure the gents of the family snuck a peek as well, because it was filled not only with fashion and sewing, traditional women's interests of the day, but also novellas about romance, mystery, and in this particular issue, a story about life on the railways. I love the full color fold-out fashion plate..hand-colored, by the way. And the advertisements...life sure has changed. This copy of Peterson's is about one hundred pages. Like most publications of that period, the cover shows wear, and the interior pages are very good. From 1890. $22.

This small food safe was in a country kitchen over one hundred years ago. It's made from solid oak, weathered to a soft patina, with metal screen front and side panels. Size is 20" wide x 13 1/2" deep and 30" tall...a perfect size for an end table. This is a cute and very handy piece of furniture that can be used in any room of your house...to hold towels in a bathroom, to hold media equipment in a TV room, a country bar in a man cave. $110

This book, written in the year 1900, gave our great, and great-great-grandparents a bit of help when they were faced with etiquette issues. First of all...just the basics of how to write a letter. What kind of paper to use, what kind of ink. Grammar. Spelling. And then...what to say to...lovers, business acquaintances, pastors, shopkeepers, fathers. Letters for good times and for bad times. For weddings and for deaths. Letters that take us back to another time, over one hundred years ago. Letters that show us where we all were in history. One important message that we can all pay attention to...Don't put anything in writing that you would not say face to face to another person. You can't take back your words. 61 pages in soft bound format, with sweet graphic illustration on front cover. $25.

A reminder that the store will be OPEN tomorrow from 11-2...and while I have your attention, let me tell you about these VERY BIG swans that are sitting on the wall today. When I was in my early thirties, I worked for a bit, doing display at Hutzlers department store. I was at the downtown store, a store that had been a Baltimore tradition for over a hundred years. And when the downtown store finally closed, it was up to the display people to sell all of the props and sets fr...om the past. It was a huge job...and if I had had the forethought to know that my life was always going to be in the antiques business, I would have snagged each and every thing. I fell in love with these huge ceramic swans and now, they are looking for a new home. Imagine them sitting on your front porch dressed in Christmas ribbons. $150 for the pair. (They're big!) Please forgive me for posting so many photos for this...but I just love it so much. I know I have shown you a lot of old catalogs from the past lately...but this might be one of my favorites. A Sears catalog from 1916. 156 pages of White Sale goods. It has everything that I like...everything I used in my everyday life, in my previous life...everything that I see in attics and barns buildings, in trunks and suitcases, stored away for a hundred years. When I post photos of items in the store, and people say, "How do you know that this blanket or these shoes or this watch chain is this old?", I say, I pour through old catalogs for the past. It's the best way to research antiques. This catalog...156 illustrated pages. There is some cover wear, but the interior pages are excellent. $45 plus $7 US shipping if you are not local.

An antique medical cabinet that once sat in a doctor's office in the 1920s...before all of the modern medicine that we know today. Maybe it was filled with rolled bandages, maybe aspirin bottles. Today, this is a very cool piece to stick in the corner of a modern kitchen. A piece to store towels in a bathroom. A funky wine bar. Crafts storage. It has three moveable glass shelves, (not pictured) and an extra shelf on the bottom... and it's on wheels, so it can be moved from spot to spot. A classic piece from an old fashioned doctor's office, now perfect for a modern day home. Please note that one piece of glass has a crack...an easy repair with a trip to Ace Hardware. $145 This is SOLD with our thanks.
