The Sewing Cats 05.01.2021

This evening bag was made from a wedding dress as a present for the original wearer's granddaughter.

We recently made heart-shaped ornaments, a pillow, and a purse from parts of a wedding gown. A great way to preserve memories! http://www.sewingcats.com/new/?p=202

Stay safe with these winter and Christmas themed masks. The hand-made folded face masks come with soft adjustable ear loops and nose wires. They are available locally at the Sewing Cats studio or can be shipped. Other fabric designs and mask types are available. Contact us for more information. http://www.sewingcats.com/new/?p=196

More new fabrics for making into masks!

New fabrics received to use for masks. The constellation fabric glows in the dark! Excited to start on these.

More mask making today - regular ones and some for the tooth fairy!

Please wear your mask correctly! It needs to cover your nose AND mouth and fit well with minimal gaps around the edges. I see far too many people wearing a mask... only over their mouth or with big gaps on the sides. Worn this way, a mask does nothing to protect you or anyone around you. Come see me if you need help fitting a mask to your unique face shape and size! Different types of masks and different ways to keep it on (ear loops don't work for everyone!) are available. Be safe while you are out and about. See more

I have now made over 400 masks that have been donated to clients, community members, nursing homes, family and friends. I have been blessed to have received donations, both money and supplies, from many people. I am very grateful. The demand for masks has dropped down to a managable level which has enabled me to get ahead and have a few extras on hand. Because of that, I am getting back to some of my regular work. My clients have waited about 6 weeks while I worked on masks and its time to get their items fixed and returned. Thank you again for your patience and continued support!

At this time I am open by appointment only, and doing contactless pick ups and drop offs for my clients. Clients do not come into the studio. When you call or text for an appointment, I will explain the procedure to you. Thank you for your support during this time. Stay safe!

While I am still working on client items, I have also taken some time to make masks for medical staff. I know they are not ideal and do not work as well as the proper equipment, but there is a need for them to be used in some situations. So I'm helping where I can. These are made using a variety of patterns, two layers of cotton fabric, non-woven sew-in interfacing, and either ties or elastic.

More ideas on ways to amuse ourselves during these times. I go on a scavenger hunt in my fabric stash every time I need to repair a client's item!

These are unusual times and things in our lives are liable to change daily or even hourly. Because I work by myself, I am still working and am offering contactless drop offs and pick ups. Items being left will need to be already marked (for hemming, for example), and fittings may need to be restricted. Items being picked up can be paid with cash or check only as credit card payments require your appearance in person in the studio. I am also limiting my business to appointments only, no walk ins. I know this may be inconvenient, but lets stay safe everyone!

Happy St Patrick's Day!

This Tuskegee Airmen flight jacket needed a new zipper. I was honored to be asked to work on something with so much history.
