Summer is upon us! Though a tough year for everyone, TLC was able to visit classes virtually. 1st graders dove into pond ecosystems where we learned about the diverse species! #welovescience #LEAF #LandEcosystemsAndFood

Get Batty With Us! June 25th and July 9th are Bat Nights! Perfect for lovers of bats (or even if you are not sure you like them). They are a powerful force in nature and are mighty bug eaters! Help us with a Citizen Science project as we count the adults flying out of their roost, and then a few weeks later we will count the pups to see the increase in population. Exciting bat lecture before. Bring a chair to sit out, but please use bug spray before you leave home. Your in...put will help with real research! Event is adjacent to Chandler Mill Nature Center, Avondale. Get your spot early, lecture begins at 7:45pm - then start counting at 8:30! $10.00 registration for both nights. register at tlcforsc.org/events This event is rain or shine. #batsofinstagram #getBattywithus #citizenscienceforbats #batmanlives #Getoutsideatdusk #mammalsofinstagram #batcrazy See more

TLC is proud to host volunteers on Monday January 18th for the MLK Day of Service at our Stateline Woods Preserve. This is a great opportunity to get out in nature and help us on the preserves. One of our specific needs at Stateline Wood Preserves is invasive plant removal which will help Stateline’s forests regenerate. Challenge yourself to get to the root of a multiflora rose bush, cut down vines or take it easy and safely pop a few burning bush saplings out of the ground. ...We will have another work party at our 200+ year old white oak tree that is one of Stateline Woods’ most beloved landmarks. No bucket too big or small to participate as we must hand-spread mushroom soil and then mulch to protect the roots. The invasive removal project starts at 9:00 AM, soil spreading and mulching starts at 11:00 AM. Masks mandatory. Meet our land managers at Stateline Woods, 843 Merrybell Lane, Kennett Square PA. Drive down the entrance lane and park in the meadow by the shed. Sign up so we can plan on the number of volunteers as numbers are limited. As parents, guardians, and teachers, it can be difficult to see students in front of the screen for long periods of time. Try out some of these brain breaks and, even better, take some of the movement breaks outside!

It is not too late to contribute to TLC as we make our way thru 2020 with our eyes on a much better and healthier 2021! Our membership raffle for the beautiful bird house is ongoing until tonight. If you have an IRA distribution that needs to be taken we would be most appreciative! Get some Vitamin Nature this weekend at one of our preserves. If our 25 years preserving and conserving land has taught us anything, it is that being out on the preserves is a boost not only to your senses, but your heart as well. We appreciate your suppport this year, see you next year on the land!
