A retaining wall that the customer wanted to do something different on the top since the rowlock (brick caps) were all falling apart. We removed all the top brick, loaded the truck with all the debris, and hauled it to the dump. I purchased capstones that needed each stone cut to size and then laid in a bed of mortar. Also we did a little grinding and pointing where the mortar looks darker. (Once it starts to dry the color will match the old mortar better.)
Chimmey i repaired today. Had to relay a few courses, grind back the remaining chimney to the roofline, then repoint the chimney. After mortar set i struck the joints, cut the excess and brushed the new masonry. Lots of clean up.
Before during and after shots. Tore off approx 3 to 4 courses, cleaned the brick. Ground out joints down to lower roofline. Repointed all ground out areas with matching mortar and relayed brick in a new bed of mortar. Last i installed a new cement crown and cleaned and hosed up the entire work area and roof.
Close up of the before on the left. Top right is after the mortar was ground out. Bottom pic is after wall was squeezed with matching mortar, struck, cut, dusted, and work area cleaned throughly! color looks dark now but will match original as it cures!
8 lentils down and 17 more to go! Moving on up! (Literally) lol. Ypu can see how rusted these things are compared to one thats new in the other pics
