We have some big news to share we’re opening a second restaurant! Here we are standing outside the future home of Kabinett, a wine bar and garden coming to downtown Easton in early 2022. You’ve gotten to know us as Aussie coffee nerds, but what you might not have known is that our true passion is wine. Jason’s been a fine wine pro working in retail, wholesale, and importing for some 30 years; Mel is the deputy editor of @foodandwine. Kabinett is going to be an elegant Art De...co romp with a wine list heavy on Australian and German rockstars and will have the kind of flavor-packed small plates you want to eat with wine. If that weren’t exciting enough, we’ll be one of the only restaurants in Easton with an outdoor patio overlooking the Delaware River, one that we’ll be transforming into a Austrian-style ‘heuriger’ wine garden (a nod to Mel’s Bavarian roots!). After toughing out the last 16 months, we are so grateful to have a bright spot on the horizon and we’re determined to have Kabinett contribute to the community the same way that Tucker has. Our newest dinner kit is inspired by a dish we enjoyed often back in Sydney, especially in wintera delicious, comforting beef rendang! For the uninitiated, this Indonesian/Malaysian classic is a thick, mild curry-like dish that’s fragrant with ginger, tamarind, turmeric, chili, and lemongrass and rich with coconut cream. Given Indonesia is Australia’s closest neighbor, we were lucky to eat the cuisine a lot. This recipe is from an iconic Australian cook and food writer, Char...maine Solomon, who is credited with introducing Asian cuisines and ingredients to a generation of households in the 70s and 80s. Welcome back delicious witchcraft?! Is it breakfast dessert?! Well, it’s a little more virtuous than that and it’s damned delicious. Caramelized banana and coconut baked oatmeal. Full of goodness like steel cut oats, oat milk, coconut and banana, topped with blubs, pepitas, seeds and a ‘lil drizzle of golden syrup. it’s warm, comforting oatmeal but not as you know it. We soak it overnight and then bake it with a kiss of golden syrup and banana until it caramelizes. It is a little known fun fact that one half of Tucker is actually a Bavarian masquerading as an Australian. This is Mel’s hometown of Garmisch-Partenkirchen last December; we’ve been fortunate to celebrate Christmases there since we moved to the U.S. Given 2020 has waylaid those plans, we’ve decided to bring a little bit of Garmisch to Tucker this December with a mini version of their Christkindlmarkt. Launching tomorrow, our outdoor market will take place from Friday-Sund...ay until Christmas from 8am to 4pm. We’ll be serving spiced hot chocolate and mulled cider alongside hot treats like pies and sausage rolls, along with our new warming ‘It’s Not’ Biscuits & Gravy. We’ll have batches of gingerbread people individually wrapped and great for gifts, as well as Bavarian Spitzbuben, Lebkuchen, shortbreads and more, as well as cute cookie packs. We’ll have gourmet spices, craft jams, and chocolates. There’s peppermint bark, whiskey fudge, and pretzel making kits. We have holiday edition Kusmi tea from Paris in beautiful tins, plus holiday edition coffee beans from Partners. We’ll also have Swisslink wool blankets, plus great homewares like tea kettles, tea pots, kitchen tools, enamelware, plus glassware, linens, stationary, scented candles the list goes on.
