If you’re only planning to store your items for a short period, and you don’t have anything that could be damaged by heat, cold, or humidity, then a non-climate-controlled unit will probably suit you just fine.

It’s a good idea to clean everything before you store it, especially if there’s a chance that it would have stains or food particles. Food particles can attract pests, and stains can become permanent or attract mold over months of storage.

Temperature extremes can be rough on everything from wood and leather to pictures and DVDs. Some items can crack or warp in the heat, while others may yellow. That’s why it’s a good idea to invest in a climate-controlled unit.
