We would like to extend our congratulations to Butler County Water Rescue Team 300 for being chosen as a recipient of the Higgins and Langley 2020 Incident Award. Butler County Team 300 is a county wide team specializing in water rescue that is made up of volunteers from fire departments all over Butler county. The value of this well organized team of highly trained professional rescuers has been made evident throughout its years of operation. Beginning in the evening hours ...of May 28th, 2019 and continuing into the evening of the 29th, members of Butler County Water Rescue Team 300, worked tirelessly to assist countless citizens affected by the severe flooding our region experienced. Over a 24 hour stretch, the team successfully and safely rescued in the area of 37 people and at least 10 pets from the ever rising flood waters. Nearly all of these rescues required advanced skills and specialized equipment. The Unionville Volunteer Fire Company has been a partner of Team 300 since its creation and several Unionville Rescuers played crucial roles, as team members, in numerous successful rescue operations conducted this day. Thanks to the team members' dedication to training and through strong teamwork and superb leadership, the rescues this day were preformed smoothly, efficiently, and most importantly safely.

We would like to extend our congratulations to Destiny and Ocean on successfully completing the Essentials of Firefighting program. This program teaches them the essential skills to function as interior firefighters as a part of our team. Due to the the pandemic, the program was delayed several times and it took them both over a year to complete. We are extremely greatfull that they stuck it out and put in the time! We can't wait to see what the future has in store for you two!

Just before 5:00 Saturday evening Unionville was dispatched to respond for a reported single motor vehicle crash with entrapment along North Main St. Ext. In Center Twp. Chief 14-3 arrived on scene and found a single patient trapped in the driver's seat of the vehicle. Rescue 14 arrived on scene shortly after and crews used hydraulic extrication tools to remove the driver's side door, lift the dash, and remove the steering wheel which allowed the EMS crew from Butler Ambulance Service to access and remove the patient. Unionville rescuers performed the extrication in just under 8 minutes. Department of Veterans Affairs Fire Department Station 38 also assisted by setting up a landing zone for STAT MedEvac. The patient was then airlifted to a Pittsburgh hospital for treatment. Great work by all involved!

At approximately 6:30 this evening Unionville was dispatched to assist West Sunbury VFD at a reported residential structure fire. Engine 14-2 was the first arriving unit on scene. The crew found a single story house with light smoke showing from the overhangs on all sides. The crew quicky stretched a handline to the rear door of the residence and forced entry into the building. They found heavy fire conditions in a laundry room and hallway and were able to make a quick knockdown on the fire limiting spread to the rest of the home. Once other units arrived on scene, crews completed overhaul of the structure and verified that the fire had not extended to other parts of the home. This fire was quickly extinguished thanks to quick and efficient work by the initial attack crew and great cooperation as usual by all crews on scene.
