The West Pottsgrove Township Police Department would like to thank the Upper Pottsgrove Township Police Department , Douglass Township Police Department of Mont...gomery County , Upper Gwynedd Township Police , and Red Corner Benefit for their help in another successful year in raising money for pediatric cancer. 10 year old Joseph (JJ) Pollock from Pottstown who was diagnosed with Kidney Cancer in August recently returned home after a bone marrow transplant on 11/23/20. We hope we were able to make your Christmas this year one to remember JJ. To learn more about this good cause, please visit www.redcornerbenefit.org

Just a friendly reminder... If you plan on leaving envelopes with tips for your refuse collectors, delivery drivers, etc., please make sure to keep an eye on the package/envelope once you leave it outside (if possible) or leave it in an area that may be covered by a home camera security system. In the past, there have been reports of individuals taking tip envelopes that did not rightly belong to them. We wouldn’t want a well intentioned gesture to fall into the hands of a Grinch.

As we celebrate a very different #Thanksgiving2020, it is difficult not to dwell on all that has changed in the last 12 months. We won't rehash them as we have all been living through them along side of all of you. The reality, however, is that we still have so much to be thankful for. Perhaps now would be the perfect time to consider how we can pitch in to help others who might not be doing so well this weekend. Simple things, that might mean little to you, could well be th...e ray of sunshine that helps someone get through a gloomy day. Perhaps spending more of your money locally and #ShopSmall to help struggling businesses weather the storm. Maybe, patronize your favorite restaurants a little more so both they and their employees will have a brighter future. Maybe reach out to a few more friends and relatives just to say "Hi" or how about we go back to sending holiday greeting cards? Giving can feel so much better than receiving. Sadly hunger and poverty know no holiday so maybe spread some kindness in the form of donating to a local food pantry or buying toys for those who might otherwise not get any. Many local service agencies are in need of gift cards to give to those they serve. The women and men of the Upper Gwynedd Township police are once again participating in the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation toy drive and also a drop off location for the North Wales Food Cupboard. Over the years we have had great community support for these outreach programs and we invite you to join with us again to brighten the holidays for others! We wish you all the very best and hope everyone has a very happy Thanksgiving!

Hello Upper Gwynedd Residents. The Township has received inquiries asking if Halloween will take place this year in light of Covid-19. Halloween is not a To...wnship-sanctioned event, but rather an American social event or custom. The Township has no legal authority or basis to cancel Halloween or restrict the Constitutionally guaranteed free movement of its residents. All residents who participate indoors should consult indoor requirements mandated by Governor Wolf’s Orders. Similar guidance applies to outdoor events. The Governor may issue a specific order regarding Halloween, so be sure to review that order if issued. We hope this information helps. Thanks and stay safe.

Its Thursday and its been quite a while since we made a throw back Thursday post so here goes... For this installment we'll go back to 1991: Upper Gwynedd Township's 100th Anniversary. UGPD had a role in the year long celebration that included many special events including a parade, the first carnival, the building of the gazebo and the installation of a time capsule therein. As part of that capsule there are photos and a video (I am guessing in good old fashioned VHS tape fo...rmat) some of which depict UGPD and some of its officers. Below are some examples of the changes that we made as part of the celebration. If you have any pictures or information that might be of collective interest for future #throwbackthursday posts please email them to [email protected] Thank You!

Found kitty! This cat was found in the 200 block of Lower Valley Rd. this evening. Can you help us reunite him/her with its humans? It is black with a gray flea collar on. The family that found the cat are taking it to the Montgomery County SPCA - PA in Conshohocken tonight. Please contact them or UGPD at 215-699-5861 if you know who this kitty belongs to. Thanks.

Upper Gwynedd Police received a generous PLCB Alcohol Education grant. Earlier this year, Upper Gwynedd Police Department applied for a grant through the PA Liquor Control Board. Through its grant program, the PLCB funds programs focused on reducing underage and high-risk alcohol consumption and supports related law-enforcement activities. The Upper Gwynedd Township Police Department was excited to learn that we were selected to receive a $26,000 grant and we are grateful tha...t we are able to get this project up and running in our community. The Upper Gwynedd Police Alcohol Awareness Project will promote educational awareness to the dangers of underage drinking and dangerous drinking with alcohol. This project will be used at local schools and community events throughout Upper Gwynedd Township and the North Penn Area. An obstacle course will be set up with traffic cones and barriers which the rider must negotiate. The rider will pedal the Drunk Buster pedal kart through the course while wearing alcohol impairment goggles with different levels of impairment. We will have both adult and youth karts for this project. This course will show the rider how alcohol affects one’s ability to control the kart while driving and being under the influence. Officers will be trained by the PA Liquor Control Board Educational Specialist to provide up to date information about the effects of alcohol to the students and adults. At project locations, a tent will be set up with field sobriety tests for balance, coordination, and undivided attention. Officers will lead participants through these tests while wearing impairment goggles and attempting to complete the tests. These tests will be difficult to perform while wearing the impairment goggles, as they will simulate being under the influence of alcohol and promote awareness. An educational trailer will transport these items and supplies to project locations. Once the project is up and running, educational material from the PLCB will be inside the trailer for students, young adults, and parents to access. Another very important aspect of this project is the interaction of the Upper Gwynedd Township Police and other area departments with its community members. It is our hope to strengthen our partnership with students, young adults, and parents but to also educate about the dangers of underage drinking and the effects or consequences of dangerous drinking. October is #NationalBreastCancerAwarenessMonth Although we are not quite sure where the rest of the year has gone, it is already October. Some people are eyeballs deep in pumpkin spice while others are still wearing flip flops. Regardless of where your feelings on those two things may stand, I don't think there is a person out there who can say they don't know someone who has been affected by breast cancer. Every year, our officers proudly wear their pink badges and make sur...e the pink Breast Cancer ribbon is displayed on all the police vehicles. This year the Chief had to make sure he was the first one to get his pink badge on (I think he likes the extra pop of color; he says it brings out the color in his eyes???). As always, Upper Gwynedd Police Department remains committed to being a part of the conversation to raise awareness for this important cause. Please read and share this IMPORTANT POLICE INFORMATION Yesterday evening at about 5:30pm, 3 vehicles were broken into while parked in the Nor-Gwyn Pool Upper Gwynedd Township Parks and Recreationparking lot on Parkside Place. In each case windows were broken to gain access to valuables inside. A group known as the #FelonyLaneGang may be responsible. We ask that you take some time to read and share the information below and adjust your practices as needed but in short, hide a...ll valuables from sight when parking your car. An even better practice is to secrete belongings prior to arriving as it is believed surveillance of lots is being used to identify targets. Thank You! Regionally and locally there has been a significant increase in daytime thefts from vehicles parked at places such as gyms, day care centers, churches, parks, sporting events (soccer, football, baseball etc.) basically anywhere people typically leave valuables such as purses and wallets in their cars. We typically think of these locations as safe and as such don't pay much attention to the items that are visible. Unfortunately, our inattention and trust is just the thing that invites a criminal group known as #TheFelonyLaneGang to act. Please read the information shared below and take appropriate precautions as this group IS CURRENTLY active in Montgomery County. If you must leave items in your car, put them in a hidden place PRIOR to arriving at your destination as it is believed look outs are used to identify cars containing hidden valuables. The actors will also peruse parking lots while looking into cars. Cars are then typically forcibly entered by breaking a window or entered rapidly in places such as day care centers, where cars are left open for short periods of time. The thieves immediately go to nearby stores to use stolen credit cards to make purchases. This is a national problem but this area is one of particularly high activity. Please read more about this criminal organization here: Felony Lane Gang Task Force
