Station 78 was busy this afternoon as we responded to 3 calls right in a row. The first call was a CO Detector then while returning we were dispatched for a mulch fire. While finishing up with the mulch fire we were called to assist Lower Frederick Fire Company to standby at a helicopter landing.

The Upper Salford Volunteer Fire Company will be conducting a 9/11 Memorial Walk this evening (9/11/2020) at Upper Salford Park to honor the first responders killed 19 years ago, today. The event will begin at 6:00pm this evening and members of the community are welcome to join. We will begin walking at 6:15, complete a .88 mile course, and finish with a moment of silence at the flagpole. This is a strictly apolitical event designed to bring the community together and honor the memory of those brave Americans who selflessly sacrificed their own lives to save others. Participants are encouraged to bring their own water bottles as there will be limited refreshments on hand.

*Heads up* tomorrow (Tuesday) the Harleysville Community Fire Company is hosting its annual Tanker drill. The drill will start at 6:30PM. The drill involves 13 ...different area fire departments and is a large-scale operation to practice our ability to flow large volumes of water with Tanker trucks. Our initial staging will occur at the Indian Valley Middle School and then the actual drill will be on the grounds of the fire company and neighboring township/police station(access to the building and leaf dumpsters will be limited). As you can see on the attached map there will be two (2) separate tanker routes that will be in action that start at the fire company and proceed to the fill stations to refill the tanks. One is on Oak drive by Nationwide Insurance and the second will be on Kulp Road at Sumner Court (Franconia). Please use caution driving these roads tomorrow evening between 6:30pm and 9pm. We will have fire police at key spots along the routes to ensure traffic safety. Otherwise, most should not notice anything major except for a few trucks driving by! Thanks for your patience while we run this very critical drill to ensure our skills and equipment and ready to go when called upon! See more

The upper Salford Volunteer Fire Company was contacted last week with regards to renting the grounds for an event to be held Monday afternoon. The fire company makes the fire hall and grounds available for rentals for public and private events which generate Revenue, however, rental ceased in March due to covid-19 pandemic causing a significant decline in income. The fire company does not support or condone the event that is being held on Monday or aligned with any political affiliation the community will also see no reduction of service due to the event

Long day for the Upper Salford volunteers. The day started for a unknown type fire call at 7:30. This was found to be a small house on fire. Once we returned to service the water rescues started. Marine 78 with boats 1 and 2 performed rescues between Towamencin and New Hanover. In all about 30 people were rescued. Special thanks to our close mutual aid partners for the amazing teamwork to complete all these rescues. Lower Frederick Fire Company Harleysville Community Fire Company

Statement from the outgoing fire company administration. The administrative officers of the Fire Company resigned amidst an issue related to their fiduciary responsibilities for company assets being maintained outside their control. The membership present at the June meeting of the company voted by a narrow margin to uphold the structure that, in violation of the company bylaws, allowed this breach in oversight to occur. The senior line Officers resigned in response to the resignation of the admin staff, unwilling or able to take on both the emergency response and administrative oversight of the company.

1 year ago today at 5pm the Upper Salford landscape changed forever with the line of severe storms producing the 120mph and higher straight line winds. For the next 40 hours Upper Salford volunteers responded to dozens of calls, checked several hundred homes, cleared hundreds of trees and distributed water to those still trapped in their neighborhoods. This was a large scale operation that at the height around 250 personnel were operating with over 30 organizations assisting. The fire company hall turned into the emergency operations center with every entity you can imagine present to coordinate the response. At the end of this no injuries were reported and the cleanup is still ongoing. Please share a memory or picture of this historic and hopefully once in a lifetime event.
