#flashbackfriday to my very first Bronze and Bubbles party featuring some of Philly's finest bloggers! When I launched my business in Feb. 2019, I wasn't playing around. I knew one of the quickest ways to grow was to throw myself into the lion's den of Instagram - aka Influencers and bloggers. (love y'all LOL). I connected with and reached out to Allison from @allisonnch_ and Ashlee from @tusksandtails to help me put on this super fun... lil' party which skyrocketed Vacay Beauty within the first 30 days of opening. Lessons learned: - Make genuine connections with your potential clients - treat them like the gold they are. - Spend money to make money - I rented a massive suite in one of Philly's most expensive hotels (it cost me like $600 for a few hours) just to host 8 influencers and a photographer. IT PAID OFF, OKURRRRR. - Don't be afraid to show up as YOU. Even in that room with 8 strangers, I showed them who I was by babbling on and on about the science of spray tans and answering all of their questions before we got started. I still do that today LOL. - The money is in the follow up. I've stayed in touch with almost all of those women - we continue to support each other and that is truly a beautiful thing. MYTH: Your spray tan needs to be extra dark. TRUTH: Your spray tan can be whatever the F it wants to be! I love this photo of my bestie @annatroj so much because it shows a completely natural looking result - against her much more fair tan lines.... A faux glow should be for every skin type, tone, and preference. Beauty is personal - it's YOURS. And I think it's absolutely amazing when even a hint of glow can make someone feel good. Honestly, I'm starting to really dislike the terms "light, medium, and dark" for a spray tan - but until I come up with something better, that's what we'll go with. Whether you choose a Classic Tan or a Rapid Tan, this chart breaks down how the different levels of DHA (6% - 12%) develop on your skin.... No matter your skin tone, a lower DHA% percentage will result in a sun-kissed, barely there glow. A higher DHA% will result in a deeper "bronzing" effect to the skin. Why? It's simple - the DHA causes a chemical reaction with the amino acids in the top dead layer of your skin. More DHA results in a darkening result. It's science, dude! Still unsure? Lots has changed in the world since we were fully operational in March 2020, but one thing that hasn't changed is Vacay Beauty is STILL a safe place for everybody with e-v-e-r-y body. Though I'm happy our doors will finally officially reopen June - this month is incredibly important beyond spray tanning. Specifically, June 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of the LGBTQ+ Pride traditions. It's crazy to think that 50 years ago, thousands of people went to the ...streets in NYC to protest centuries of abuse against the LGBTQ+ community. (Now, we celebrate with millions of people marching, demonstrating, and dancing around the country!) It's also crazy to think how much work continues to need to be done to foster a world of understanding, compassion, inclusivity, and - of course - equal rights. Vacay Beauty has always welcomed all - but I know I can do better to represent and be in community with those fighting for the same rights we all deserve. I'm excited about some things brewing behind the scenes, which will hopefully help lift those voices into the sunless beauty space.
