The Historic Pellet house, is one of the oldest homes in Palmyra township. It was built by John Pellet Jr near the site of the old Wallenpaupack Fort. The homestead still remains along Ansley road and is now Loch Highlands summer cottages run by the Coutts Family. The spring that supplied water to the Fort still flows and can be seen directly across the street.
The Paupack High Falls in 1907. This was the site of James Cromwell's tannery built in 1848, destroyed by fire in 1865, rebuilt then closed for good in 1882. It was also the site of the Bellemonte Silk Mill, built in 1880, also destroyed by fire in 1894, rebuilt and operated till 1956. It is now the Hawley Silk Mill and Ledges Hotel.

The Knoll family sisters, Louise and Linda, children of George and Arline Knoll of Spinnler Point, graciously donated to WHS an antique coverlet made in 1852 for their ancestor Susannah Bond by Joseph Turnbauch of Sugarloaf (top photo), a summer bed quilt from the mid-to-late 19th century made by Susannah’s relatives (bottom middle), a winter bed quilt made at the same time in the crazy pattern (bottom right), and a beautiful set of graduated sleigh bells. Also donated were a number of antique baby clothes, an old stitching bench used for sewing leather, an antique dragoon pistol, a reproduction antique rifle, a wire dress form, and two Dutch baptismal certificates from the 1800s Pennsylvania. Thank you for sharing your family heirlooms with the Wallenpaupack Historical Society.
Have you purchased your tickets for the annual quilt raffle? Just a month remains for you to support the Wallenpaupack Historical Society in their mission to keep the history of the Wallenpaupack Area alive and accessible to present and future generations. The drawing will take place at our meeting in November. The quilt theme is Anchors Away and fits a queen sized bed. All fabric and stitch work is generously donated by the ladies of the Friends with a Heart local quiltin...g group. This quilt is a true work of art. To see the quilt, please visit the Lake Wallenpaupack PMVB Visitors Center. Tickets can be purchased at the Visitors Center, The Settlers Inn, the Palmyra Pike Township Bldg or through the mail. With this being our only available fundraiser this year, your help is greatly needed and sincerely appreciated. Obtain 6 entries for just $20 by mailing your check to WHS, PO Box 345, Paupack, PA 18451. You need not be present to win.
