We received a special email from the parent of Raymond, a 6th-grade student at Stetson Middle School. Raymond's mom shared with us that every year since 2nd-grade, he has been performing for his fellow students and teachers during the holiday assembly at Penn Wood Elementary School. Now that he has moved on to middle school, Raymond wanted to continue to share his love of music and performing by doing so virtually. We think he did an amazing job! Happy Holidays!
With some of the back roads beginning to freeze, we will be implementing the following schedule for Friday, December 18: All middle and high schools will be operating on a Remote Learning Day, and following their normal schedule. All middle and high school special needs students who attend five days per week will operate on a one-hour delay. These students will attend in-person learning.... All elementary schools will be operating on a one-hour delay and following a hybrid schedule with Cohort B in person, as well as five days per week and four days per week special education students attending in person. A Child’s Place Child Care will operate on a one-hour delay. A one-hour delay means that bus pick up times are delayed by one hour, and school starting times are delayed by one hour. For example, if an elementary school normally starts at 8:40, tomorrow it will begin at 9:40. If a school bus pick-up time is 8:05, the pick-up time for Friday will be 9:05. Thanks for everyone’s patience as we continue to navigate a very challenging school year.
The East High School Music Department proudly presents "Let it Snow!" Mr. Celfo (orchestra), Mrs. Werner (chorus), and Mr. Risch (band) gathered over 100 band, choral and string students to record this celebration of winter weather through remote collaboration. Bravo to our hardworking, talented students and our dedicated music directors! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVEAmzmNemM
Congratulations to the 31 WCASD students accepted into the District 12 PMEA ensembles! (Repost to correct the misspelling of a student's name.)
The WCASD School Board of Directors has approved Dawn Mader as the district's new (and first) Director of Equity and Assessment. Dawn is the current assistant principal of Bayard Rustin High School. I am overjoyed and humbled at the opportunity to serve in this historic and critical role," said Mader. Dr. Scanlon has committed his career towards moving equity forward. I am honored to work with him to support the equity mission in the district. Mrs. Mader's infectious enth...usiasm started when she entered the district almost 5 years ago. Prior to coming to WCASD, she was an elementary teacher and middle school assistant principal in Delaware County. Mrs. Mader has taught Social Studies and Emotional & Learning Support students. One of Mrs. Mader's early educational accomplishments is when she won Teacher of the Year in the Camden City School District while teaching in a program designed to accelerate students who did not meet with success in a traditional public-school setting. These were the 'throw away' students," Mader said. "I managed to give these students a rigorous education, hope and support through Social Emotional Learning before it gained momentum in schools. I am looking forward to extending the possibilities in a fantastic community that we have here in the West Chester Area School District.
Please check your email or our website for an important update from Dr. Scanlon.
Welcome back, secondary Group A!

Students enrolled in the WC Cyber Program took part in CHOP's Pajama Day on December 4 and surpassed their fundraising goal of $150. Mrs. Sochacki's 2nd-grade students raised $375.00! "We talked about gift-giving and how it is important to think about others. I am so proud of them," said Mrs. Sochacki. One student's mother added "Wesley insisted on donating money from his own allowance savings to CHOP, so we matched it. He was inspired by the book you are reading - Charlie ...and the Chocolate Factory. He doesn't want kids to be sick or have to eat cabbage soup. Your Friday readings are very special to him!" We are so proud of our students! Great job!
