Soft tissue mobilization is a type of manual therapy performed by a licensed physical therapist. The therapist uses both stretching and deep pressure to break up scar tissue and improve range of motion. #physicaltherapy #KOPPT #getpt1st #kingofprussia #therapeuticexercise #therapeuticexerciseandrehabilitation #modalities #manualtherapy #activereleasetechnique #activerelease #neuromuscularreeducation #teamoriented #severity #irritability #jointmobilizations

Nerve glides are used to allow a nerve to glide more easily through surrounding tissues. By putting on and taking away tension from the nerve at various points along its path, the hope is to regain mobility and reduce inflammation and compression to the nerve. Posted here are nerve glide exercises for both the sciatic nerve and median nerve that the KOPPT team likes to show their patients. Always remember to proceed with caution when performing an exercise or stretch. Be cautious when sitting on any exercise ball due to its instability. If the exercises cause you pain, stop what you are doing, and seek help from a healthcare professional. #physicaltherapy #KOPPT #getpt1st #kingofprussia #therapeuticexercise #therapeuticexerciseandrehabilitation #modalities #manualtherapy #neuromuscularreeducation #nerveglides #sciaticnerve #mediannerve

Once a patient has been examined and evaluated, a physical therapist will prescribe a set of exercises the patient can perform at home when not in therapy. This home exercise program is always specific to the patient and important to maintain in order to improve recovery. #physicaltherapy #KOPPT #getpt1st #kingofprussia #therapeuticexercise #therapeuticexerciseandrehabilitation #modalities #manualtherapy #neuromuscularreeducation #homeexerciseprogram #homeexercises #consistency

The Bodyblade is used to perform functional exercises for shoulder rehabilitation. These exercises focus on strengthening the shoulder complex, especially the rotator cuff muscles. Additionally, the Bodyblade enhances strength, endurance, and coordination of several other muscle groups, like the scapular and core muscles. Here we have Peter Mancini, one of our PTA’s, introducing a few exercises we like to show our patients with the Bodyblade. Always remember to proceed with c...aution when performing an exercise or stretch. If the exercises cause you pain, stop what you are doing, and seek help from a healthcare professional. #physicaltherapy #KOPPT #getpt1st #kingofprussia #therapeuticexercise #therapeuticexerciseandrehabilitation #modalities #manualtherapy #neuromuscularreeducation #bodyblade #rotatorcuff #corestrengthening #shoulderexercises

In this video, Tom Kane is performing ART treatment on a patient with cervical pain stemming from the Paraspinal muscles in the thoracic region. The Paraspinal muscles consist of the Iliocostalis Cervicis, Longissimus Cervicis, and Spinalis. These muscles are primarily in control of extension and lateral flexion of the cervical spine. ART has been successful in decreasing pain by improving relative motion and soft tissue quality for this patient. #physicaltherapy #KOPPT #getpt1st #kingofprussia #therapeuticexercise #therapeuticexerciseandrehabilitation #modalities #manualtherapy #neuromuscularreeducation #ART #activereleasetechnique #activerelease #fullbodyART #artcertified #cervicalpain #paraspinalmuscles #thoracicregion #rangeofmotion

Active Release Technique is used to treat the body’s soft tissue by palpation, pressure, and movement. A physical therapist must be certified in ART, like our lead physical therapist Tom Kane, to perform this treatment and gain these various benefits listed. #physicaltherapy #KOPPT #getpt1st #kingofprussia #therapeuticexercise #therapeuticexerciseandrehabilitation #modalities #manualtherapy #neuromuscularreeducation #activerelease #activereleasetechnique #rangeofmotion

A muscle can contract in two ways, either concentrically or eccentrically. Concentric contractions occur when muscles shorten whereas eccentric contractions occur when muscles lengthen. Exercises pertaining to concentric contractions are most common, but challenging a muscle eccentrically can aide the muscle greatly. Here is an example of a patient who needs assistance concentrically to lift her arm up over her head, but then is asked to lower her arm eccentrically. #physicaltherapy #KOPPT #getpt1st #kingofprussia #teamoriented #therapeuticexercise #therapeuticexerciseandrehabilitation #modalities #manualtherapy #neuromuscularreeducation #eccentric #eccentriccontractions #shoulderflexion

Ankle stability is extremely important in order to keep our body weight supported during all movements. Our ankles therefore are highly mobile and susceptible to injury. One of the most common exercises the KOPPT team gives to our ankle patients is the BAPS board. BAPS stands for Biomechanical Ankle Platform System. This board is used to improve balance by challenging most leg structures specifically the ankle, knee, and hip after injury or surgery. #physicaltherapy #KOPPT #getpt1st #kingofprussia #therapeuticexercise #therapeuticexerciseandrehabilitation #modalities #manualtherapy #neuromuscularreeducation #ankle

Prehab is the act of performing physical therapy before elective surgery. We have had a lot of patients here at KOPPT undergo prehab in order to strengthen their body before surgery. These patients generally seem to respond better after surgery. A lot of doctors give patients prescriptions to undergo physical therapy before surgery in order to accelerate the post-operative recovery. The specific activity based movements can be used to address deficits in strength, stability, ...range of motion, balance, and overall joint function. It is recommended to participate in prehab roughly two months before surgery to give the body enough time to have strength gains. #physicaltherapy #occupationaltherapy #handtherapy #therapeuticexercise #therapeuticexerciseandrehabilitation #modalities #manualtherapy #neuromuscularreeducation #koppt #getpt1st #kingofprussia #prehab #decreasedrecoverytime

Using a cane properly is very important in helping individuals walk, remain stable, and maintain good posture. Before using the cane, the proper height of a cane should be determined. The cane handle should align with the individual’s wrist while standing straight with a hand at the side. Here in this video, Michaela, one of our physical therapists, describes how to walk safely with a cane following three easy steps. Always remember to proceed with caution when performing an exercise or stretch. If the exercises cause you pain, stop what you are doing, and seek help from a healthcare professional. #physicaltherapy #therapeuticexercise #therapeuticexerciseandrehabilitation #modalities #manualtherapy #neuromuscularreeducation #koppt #getpt1st #kingofprussia #walkingwithacane #stability #gait #gaitdysfunction #gaitpatterns #cane

At KOPPT, we follow a specific pain scale in order to determine if an exercise causes pain for a patient. Pain scales and pain tolerances are defined differently to each patient. Because of this, KOPPT clearly explains how we define our pain scale to the patients so that both our patients and our team members are in agreement. #physicaltherapy #KOPPT #getpt1st #kingofprussia #therapeuticexercise #therapeuticexerciseandrehabilitation #modalities #manualtherapy #activereleasetechnique #activerelease #aquatictherapy #neuromuscularreeducation #throwinganalysis #handtherapy #teamoriented #painscales #painscale

In addition to the cervical and thoracic regions of the body, the lower back can become stiff with prolonged sitting and standing. Included here are a few lower back stretches to help increase the back’s range of motion and flexibility. Back exercises can also improve a person’s mobility, balance, and core strength. With strong back muscles, the body will then be able to perform daily activities efficiently. Always remember to proceed with caution when performing an exercise... or stretch. If the exercises cause you pain, stop what you are doing, and seek help from a healthcare professional.
