An estimated 54 percent of the 1 million firefighters in the U.S. are volunte...ers, according to the U.S. Fire Administration. Extinguishing fires is just one of many varied duties assigned to volunteer firefighters. If you are physically fit and looking for a way to serve your community, you may find this challenging role deeply rewarding.
