We just received a message from our newest Schwarzman Scholar! Congrats Maria! My name is Maria Ahmed and I am a member of class of 2020. I double majored in International Affairs and Anthropology/Sociology. While at Lafayette, I was a member of Refugee Action, a team leader for Landis Center's MOSAIC and Alternative School Break teams. I am currently working for a non-profit global health organization, Population Service International (PSI), in Washington DC as a Program Assistant to their Anglophone Africa team to help in-country implementation of healthcare programs. Starting August 2021, I will be attending Schwarzman College at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China for a 1 year long master's degree program in Global Affairs. I am extremely thankful for the opportunity to continue my education.
We are so excited to hear about this tremendous honor and opportunity for Victoria Puglia ‘21! She is the second Lafayette student to receive a Rhodes Scholarship, and the first in over 100 years. Congratulations!! #LafayetteCollege

Join us on Thursday, October 22 from 12:25-1:10 PM EST as Prof. David Brandes (Civil & Environmental Engineering and Chair of the B.S. Engineering Program) offers a session on Pennsylvanian Rachel Carson's Hawk Mountain Legacy. Rachel Carson included observations from nearby Hawk Mountain Sanctuary in making her case for the devastating impacts of DDT on the avian food chain. She asks pointedly whether we really want a world without insects if it is also a world "ungraced... by the curving wing of a bird in flight." The talk will focus on Rachel Carson's connection to Hawk Mountain, and how raptor migration data and citizen science continue to inform us about the health of our environment. This session is part of Lafayette's 2020-2021 Community Reading, Silent Spring. RSVP here: https://lafayettec.az1.qualtrics.com//f/SV_emKo1Q5IyTJGmPz

Whoop whoop! We have some good news to share! Lexi Long is our newest recipient of a 2020-2021 Fulbright Scholarship and will be teaching English in the German state, North Rhine Westphalia starting in January 2021. She is a recently-graduated International Affairs and German double-major with a minor in Women and Gender Studies. While at Lafayette, she was the Vice-President of the International Affairs Board, the President of Relay for Life, a member of Alpha Phi Sorority, ...and a volunteer at Meals on Third Street, Safe Harbor, and the Journey Home. She also studied abroad through the Lafayette German Summer Interim in Bonn, Germany, as well for a semester at DIS in Copenhagen, Denmark. In the future, Lexi would like to work for a nonprofit or NGO focused on human rights initiatives at home and abroad, as well as possibly attend an International Affairs graduate program. See more

Over the last few months we have all learned to work hard at maintaining our sense of connection over long distances. I hope that even though we are far apart, we can look for opportunities to show support now and pledge action in the future. It is not enough simply to bear witness to racism and acknowledge that it exists. As an educational institution, Lafayette College has a role to play in revealing and countering its effects. That is a task that I promise you we will take up when we meet again. ~President Alison Byerly, Lafayette College #BlackOutTuesday #WereInThisTogether #LafayetteStrong
Certificates have been stuffed and are in the mail! Going to NM, NH, CA, CT, England and many more!! #LafHC20 Congratulations to all Honors Convocation winners!
