When I was 9 years old I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. When I was 46 I had a stroke. In those moments I found a reason to find something wrong with who I was, and felt like I was being punished. I now understand there was nothing wrong with who I was and I have been able to move past this mindset and have it help turn me into the person I am today.... Instead of going into negative feelings like woe is me, why me, etc, I put my 3 biggest reasons for fighting in front of me. I kept myself busy fighting for these 3 reasons.. my daughter Ayva, my daughter Grace, and my small business of 22 years! I got confident in who I was and knew I was a fighter, not a victim! I continued to work on myself and goals. When I was recovering, I wanted to be more than.. what happened to me.. what was taken from me.. my trauma.. what people thought of me. I have shared my story openly and often and I know it can help others, especially with this year not being kind to any of us. I wanted to share to make sure that those of you who have gone through this, something similar, or other traumatic experiences and are struggling know that everything you want to accomplish is possible. You ARE worthy! You WILL do it! Just please don’t give up, the only way we fail is not trying.. after all, we miss every shot we don't take! I hope that this is a reminder that we can get through anything that happens to us. I have a wonderful family, business, I get to help other stroke survivors, diabetics, and others every day, and I love my role in life! All of this came from pain, depression, and anxiety. I made this work, and you can, too. You could be the next person to share your story and help someone else who's struggling. All it takes is a reason, faith, and determination.
