The first National Votes for Women Trail marker in Pennsylvania was dedicated today to honor suffragist Hannah Patterson. The marker is located on the campus of... Wilson College in Chambersburg, Franklin County, Pennsylvania. The William G Pomeroy Foundation has provided the funding for this marker and Wilson College graciously installed it. This project was spearheaded by the National Collaborative for Women's History Sites whose goal is to educate the public about the work of suffragists who are not as well known as Susan B Anthony or Lucretia Mott but whose work was just as important. Thank you to all who made this event a success! See more

Happy birthday, Hannah Patterson! Born today in 1879, Patterson graduated from Wilson College in 1901. She was chair of the Woman's Suffrage Party of Pennsylvan...ia from 1912 to 1915 and Secretary of the National American Woman's Suffrage Party in 1916. Patterson was a recipient of the Distinguished Service Medal from the Council of National Defense in 1919. FOR HER BIRTHDAY GIFT, Director Robyn Young will be unveiling Pennsylvania's first National Votes for Women Trail marker in a few hours. We will post photos later. See more
