Singing at Rittenhouse Soundworks Studios last weekend was such a joy. I didn't realize how much I missed actually . It's one thing to sing at home,... but it's so much more magical to sing with other musicians and for an audience (even if they audience is watching from home). If you missed the livestream, or want to watch it again, you have FULL access to watch on my Youtube page. Take a watch/listen and then on my Youtube page if you like what you hear.

Hope summer is as much of a groove as it can be right now! In lieu of the gig-spam we all miss so much, we've been doing the social-media chatup to spread the ...word about the new Ensemble Novo EP, *Scenes From The Summer We're Not Having." Here's just a teeny bit about it: We record live in the studio, sometimes adding more percussion later but that's about it. This method is challenging: We can't do much editing the way we would in a typical multi-track or computer setup, but the tradeoff is we do get the feeling of a performance. Something happening in a room, at a particular moment. Something that won't necessarily happen this way again. The room at Rittenhouse Soundworks is accomplice, midwife and particle accelerator in this pursuit of liveness. It's big and open and resonant. It has its own reverb profile, and a warmth that is well matched to our sound. Our goal is to create music that has texture and richness at an intimate scale, and if we're at all successful, this space is one reason why. Maybe every note is not perfect, but we're able to deeply listen to each other, and that gives the music an atmosphere of openness and relaxation. We hope you enjoy, and please let us know! Check us on the various streaming services or, better, on Bandcamp, where we encourage you to "Follow" us. https://ensemblenovo.bandcamp.com//scenes-from-the-summer-

Part 3 of the new visual album from trumpeter Josh Lawrence. The more frightening the world becomes the more art becomes abstract Painter Vasily Kandinsky c...reated his most iconic works amid the chaos of the early 20th century. His Composition series of paintings were the grandest expression of his artistic ideas treating the canvas as a score for his symphonies of color and form. The first three of these paintings were labelled Degenerate Art by the German Nazi Party, confiscated from the Bauhaus School, and destroyed during World War II seventy-five years ago. Lost Works is a suite in three movements composed by trumpeter Josh Lawrence celebrating the legacy of Vasily Kandinsky and eulogizing his lost masterpieces. Supported by Chamber Music America’s New Jazz Works program, the suite was filmed live at Rittenhouse Soundworks in Philadelphia for Lawrence’s visual album Lost Works Live featuring his ensemble with Caleb Curtis (saxophone), Zaccai Curtis (piano), Luques Curtis (bass), Anwar Marshall (drums), Brent White (trombone), and Adam Faulk (Wurlitzer).
