At yesterday's PA House Democratic Policy Committee committee hearing, local #healthcare professionals spoke about their struggles during the pandemic and the need for increased resources. (**Read it all, please**) At noon, Joe Biden will be our president, and I'm proud. Not just because we're both from Northeastern PA, or that I'd profess him or his politics to be perfect nor would he. As a public servant, I support his policies that would rebuild our economy and restore jobs; fight for social justice; enforce law and order; protect our environment; and elevate a woman of color to the highest levels of the executive branch. Anyone who tells you these things ...are impossible or mutually exclusive isn't telling you the truth or is afraid to think big and bold and brave. But, I'm also proud of Joe, because there's a good chance he understands some version of what life's thrown at you at me at each of us. From Joe's debilitating stutter at a young age the kind that inspired my younger sister to be a speech therapist. Or when our dad lost his job years ago and, like Joe's dad, he wondered how he would support his family. Our new president is someone who understands us. As I come home every night to the young family I'm blessed with and adore, it's tough to imagine Joe's lifelong grief of losing his first wife, a daughter, and grown son. But through all of that, he still somehow summoned the faith, the heart, and the optimism to serve to serve us. As we embark upon this transition of presidential power, I’d ask you to summon within yourselves the common decency, determination, and patriotism to renew your vows to our great country to which we owe so much. It's not every day that I'm applauding the US Senate, but this is big, and this is personal. As many of you know, Dad was diagnosed with #ALS in January, had to leave work, and is currently in the five-month waiting period for Social Security Disability. This bill to eliminate that waiting period for ALS patients now heads to the US House.
