Here is a patient that we saw for dental implants. They were born without a set of adult incisors, so when their baby teeth fell out, no other teeth grew in. We gave the patient dental implants, and this is what their smile looks like now. The gums are still slightly inflamed from the procedure, but will continue to improve with time. Also, the before photo was taken at a slightly different angle than the after photo. A procedure like this isn't just for looks. Without the...se 2 adult teeth to fill in the empty space, the teeth would migrate to close in the gap, and result in changing the way all the teeth in the mouth work to chew food. A lot of people with missing teeth will often experience headaches, or TMJ pain, the lower half of the jaw can become misaligned, as well as teeth wearing down prematurely because of alignment. In some cases, if a person has had missing teeth for a long time, and wants to proceed with dental implants, we sometimes have to open the gap to allow for the width of a new teeth. In those cases, a patient will go through a program of dental aligners, then we can proceed with the dental implants.
