We are an organization that specializes in one on one coaching with young students, so over a year on Zoom, we have seen students who normally have: physical movement like; switching classrooms, playing at recess, eating lunch, and P.E., having a hard time staying still over Zoom all day. But kids staying still isn’t our goal, our goal is students becoming better readers, so how can we center that? Ask ourselves is their behavior disruptive to their learning or just a product humans beings having a human experience. Wishing you all a good hump day! A.N.

Each Friday, we're going to highlight great books for each of the readers in your family. They might be books for the whole family to read together, books for early readers, middle grade reader recommendations or even books just for grownups. Today we're recommending a book to start conversations about big feelings with your family: Sweep... Written by Louise Greig Illustrated by Júlia Sardà Grade Level: 2-3 Everyone can sympathize with this book's protagonist, Ed. He's in a really bad mood. His bad mood keeps getter bigger and bigger. This book is perfect for cozy-ing up on a chilly fall day, and reminding ourselves that we can come out the other side of a bad mood. Keep your literacy skills sharp this school year with us. Gather the family (or your students!) and play a fun phonics game! Grownup Tip: Pre-readers and newer readers might say words that aren't real words when they are trying to rhyme. For example, they may say "nop" when trying to think of a word that rhymes with "hop." That's okay when you're playing this game together. This is proof that your learner understands the individual sounds in a word and is working to manipulate them. This a super skill when they're learning to read. Keep up the good work!
