Checkmate Dynamics

No doubt most of you have seen the plan to put a bucket of river rocks in the classrooms for kids to throw at an attacker as they enter the room. In a discussion of this topic with a friend on Facebook my comments were the following: It would need to be a minor part of a very comprehensive protection plan which should include armed and TRAINED security, I am all for improvised weapons, it is B.S. if it is the only plan. I still stand by most of this. However...I apprecia...te the words of Rob Pincus a well known and well respected self defense instructor. He has softened my attitude on this plan. I am always learning. Rob Pincus’ response to criticism of the river rock plan: Far too many people in the firearms community miss the value of initiatives that teach kids to be prepared to defend themselves! Mindset... mindset... mindset. It’s easy for defensive firearms instructors to say that will to fight and mindset mean more than anything else, but sometimes they reveal themselves as gun-centric and political when push comes to shove. We saw the same thing a few years ago when an School District had kids bring canned goods to the classroom and stage them as defensive tools. Teach the kids that they must be prepared to fight. Empower them (and equip them however you can...) and they will became the generation that changes the attitude about guns. Teach them that they need specially trained and equipped protectors and what do you get? More gun control and more helpless adults who think other people are responding for their safety. I am amazed at how many pro-gun people simply don’t get this. Especially those involved in defensive education. Lamenting ANY attempt to prepare any human to defend themselves is counter-productive... and reveals a political agenda other than make people safer. I have said for a long time, the best way to fight evil and predatory violence in the long run is to Teach kids that it is okay to fight, teach them when it is okay to fight and teach them what it is okay to fight for.

Go get training. I have taken this course and it is awesome. This course is for everyone and anyone but I highly recommend it for teachers.

Get this book and read it. I have trained with Aaron Jannetti and he is the real deal. He is an authority on this subject. This book could save your life and the lives of others.
