Random thoughts: I'm very careful how I talk about my girls' hair. As black mothers, we're often the main ones planting seeds of self hatred in our daughters. S...o I'm careful not to say "Your hair is too thick". That insinuates that something is wrong with their hair. Instead I say "This ponytail holder isn't big enough." Instead of "Your hair is so nappy" I say "I have to be careful with your delicate curls, I dont want to break them." Instead of "Your hair won't do right" I say "It's time to wash all this product out your hair" or "I need to buy some better products for your hair" or "I didn't moisturize it enough this week." Instead of "She has good hair" I say "Her hair has a loose curl pattern" or "her hair is low maintenance." Even when I'm getting tired and detangling is becoming a challenge I say "You have so much pretty hair. It takes a long time when I'm being careful, but I don't want to rush and damage your hair." By speaking this way, it shows my girls that there's nothing wrong with their hair, but perhaps our hair tools, products, regimen, or patience is the problem. https://youtube.com/channel/UCAhC1f23cIyGciaFbVMbMLw
