As COVID hot-spots heat up again, we wanted to provide another update, and a little advice. Since being asked by the Dept of Agriculture to perform disinfecting services, we have performed well over 100 commercial treatments in all kinds of facilities, from municipalities, surgical centers, EMS/Fire stations, churches, nursing homes, offices and large warehouses including national Fortune 500 companies. Many of these services have been routine disinfecting, while some have ...been 'reactionary'. Our disinfecting teams work around the clock to ensure that COVID-19 doesn't spread in a facility. You can't stop COVID from coming in, but you stop it from spreading--by quarantining and disinfecting. Since the onslaught of COVID-19, Dominion committed to protecting the Susquehanna Valley by helping large non-profits including homeless shelters and health clinics with hundreds of clients through training, and donating equipment and product--before we even offered the service to our customers (it took about a week to add the service to our insurance). My point: We didn't wait--we went to the community's most vulnerable right away. We are still involved in helping these organizations, and grateful we could help stop any potential spread of COVID-19 in their facilities, in addition to the many businesses we help on a regular basis. As we said, we would like to offer a little advice. We would like to focus on hand sanitizing. When we perform our 'Deep Clean' in facilities, we always focus on objects that are frequently touched--by hands. This includes a long list of items, most of them folks don't even think about... but to help protect yourself and your family, you need to think about what you touch. There is no way to avoid touching many items, from your shopping cart at the grocery store, the credit card terminal, or the gas nozzle at the pump station. Sanitizing your hands immediately after touching these items before touching anything else is a key to reducing the opportunity of contracting any virus (if you are not wearing protective gloves), or unknowingly spreading it. These are just examples when out in public. When you are at the office it could be door handles, light switches, handrails, the toilet handle or the sink faucet handle. I can't stress enough how important it is to wash your hands according to CDC recommendations or use hand sanitizer when returning to your workstation. Remember, if someone touched it before you did--whatever it is, it could be contaminated, so be diligent! Also, if your workplace doesn't already have standard cleaning practices in place to help prevent the spread of pathogens, you may want to visit the CDC site. We say over and over again: "You can't stop COVID from coming in, but you can kill it when it does!" Please remember, whether you work from home or at the office, protecting yourself is protecting others. As Benjamin Franklin famously quoted, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."
