At Girls on the Run one of our favorite sayings is "The Finish Line is Just the Beginning". Today our leader for the last 5 years, Lisa, is crossing the finish line. We know it is only the beginning for her, and as much as she will be missed, we are so excited to see what amazing things she will do next. Those of you that know me well know this has become an endurance event for me and my finish line is a ways away, and so I feel blessed to have the opportunity to continue ...the journey. However, anyone who has done an endurance event of any sort knows that you are only as good as your support crew! Congrats to Jessica who is stepping up as our new Program Manager! She has been the steady pacer for the last 5 years and I am so excited to have her take on this new challenge. Best of luck to you both on your journey to the finish line! XOXO See more

COVID-19 has upended life as we know it. Here’s one thing that hasn’t changed: our commitment to nurturing the physical, emotional and social health of ALL girls.

We asked our Diakon Family Life Services staff members to share some of their suggestions as the new school year approaches for some ways parents can help ease any anxiety kids may be feeling. Here is what Lindsay shared.... It’s really important to understand that for most youth, their lives have essentially been turned upside down. For most of them, their brain is in the developmental stage that thrives on social interaction so the lack thereof can be a shock to the syste...m. To help ease some anxiety, parents can help by allowing their children to have an outlet for their anxiety making sure they get exercise and physical activity can be a huge help! Also, avoiding watching the news when they are around. Parents should be mindful of their own stressors and anxiety as kids can sense that! My head is spinning and my eyes are crossed after digging into serious GOTR Virtual 5k planning and research today! We are planning for a FULL day of events in November. The amount of technology we have to connect as a community is mind blowing.
