DYK that Philly's Plastic Bag Ban goes into effect on July 1st? Wondering what the ban means for you and those in your community? Find answers to your questions about the bill on the city's page here https://bit.ly/2QleVIW. #countdowntoearthweek
It's feeling like another six weeks of winter today! On this Groundhog Day, the facts from our post from this day last year still ring true, too... Did you know that 52.1% of all municipal solid waste created in the US is still being landfilled? This number is equal to over 139 million tons of waste a year! Single-use products like plastic bags take up to 500 years to decompose and styrofoam containers never biodegrade. Reduce and reuse by cutting out single-use plastics like plastic bags, plastic water bottles, cling wrap, plastic straws, styrofoam to-go containers, disposable razors, and plastic utensils in place of more sustainable options to #KeepPhillyBeautiful! #MyBeautifulPHL #ZeroWaste #Repost
We recognize and express deep gratitude for the inspiring Martin Luther King Jr. today. Take a moment to reflect on his words and message, there are many recordings and transcripts available online. Consider what type of energy or acts you can contribute to advancing the vision MLK Jr. promoted: an equitable, thriving, and loving community.

We can't wait for this Friday to join up with @amosreccenter for a kick-off cleanup for the Tools For Heroes Rec Center beautification projects with @philaparksalliance! Checkout their story for more details about the cleanup. #repost On this Labor Day, we'd like to honor the hard-working staff and volunteers who represent the #ToolsForHeroes finalist @philaparkandrec sites. The rec center workers joined us on August 27 at @loweshomeimprovement in South Philly to buy supp...lies with the money awarded in the #ToolsForHeroes grants. Originally, we were going to gather on March 19, so it was a long time coming! We also were excited to have our #ToolsForHeroes partner @beautifulphl join us. We hope that these rec center staff and volunteers are enjoying their well-deserved day off and that you are, too!

Did you know that July is Plastic-Free month? Sure, we ask you to be mindful of your single-use plastic consumption EVERY day, but #PlasticFreeJuly is a movement to reduce the amount of plastic debris on streets and in waterways and oceans. KPB's Executive Director Kelly Offner will join Green Philly tomorrow (7/30) at noon to discuss the plastic problem and what you can do about it, along with two fab panelists from TerraCycle & Philadelphia Water Department. We are undividedly in support of those protesting and calling for justice for the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and countless other unnamed black men, women, and children killed by racist acts and failed by a broken system. The recognition of Juneteenth as a national holiday is an important milestone on the way to acknowledging the trauma and injustice America’s black communities have faced, but we have many more miles to go. Access to a Beautiful Philadelphia is s...omething that every resident should equally benefit from. KPB’s board and staff are currently reviewing our goals, priorities, and processes for our beautification work. We accept that there are inherent inequalities in our work that need to be addressed and that we must commit to promoting racial justice and equity in all the ways we can. We will continue to update you as our plans unfold. #juneteenth #blacklivesmatter #justiceforbreonnataylor #justiceforgeorgefloyd #justiceforbipoc See more
