Harmful traditional sexual and gender-based violence (GBV) is universal and prevalent across cultures. Culturally, Violence Against Women is those acts that are... explicitly justified or condoned through misuse of cultural, religious, or traditional beliefs, values, and practices that are meant to impose patriarchal control that debase women and girls. There are, for example, Early Child Marriage, Female Genital Mutilations (FGM), and limitations of Women's development and advancement due to customs and traditional beliefs. Many of these culturally sanctioned practices are meant to subjugate women. The ripple effect is generational and remains a threat to the national interest, global standards, and human civilization. We are reimagining the role, choice, and potential of Women's contribution in modern traditional societies. Speakers include His Royal Majesty King Adedapo Adeen Aderemi, the 46th traditional Ruler of the ancient kingdom of Ido Osun in the Yoruba land, and the Convenor General of the Council of Traditional Leaders of Africa (COTLA) / Conseil des Autorites Traditionnelles, D'Afrique (CONATA), Her Royal Majesty Queen Sylvia Nnaginda, The Nnabagereka or Queen of a historical kingdom of Buganda, Her Excellency Yelzol Naa Hajia Hawa Salifu, and Traditional rulers representing all the Six African regions of the African World are scheduled to discuss eradicating harmful traditional practices in the communities. The program is organized by the African Queens & Women Cultural Leaders, The African Royal Kingdoms (The ARK), and African Views Organization (AQWCLN The ARK - AV). The program is organized as a follow-up on the Commission's observance on the Status of Women (CSW 65): BEYOND CSW The program is moderated by Her Royal Heritage (HRH) Nanahemaa Adjoa Awindor, the Ghanaian television host, and produced by Nana Dr. Wale Idris Ajibade, Executive Director of African Views Org (http://www.africanviews.org)

Today on Earth Day, we are excited to release this video as an offering to honor Mother Earth and grateful to all of you who protect and defend our sacred pacha...mama. It was a group effort, Melinda Gonzalez provided the concept, Dr. Drum- the lyrics and Bomba music, and the amazingly talented Taina Asili delivered powerful vocals to uplift and elevate the soul al ritmo de Bomba. The video and music was engineered by Gaetano Vaccaro. Our intention in this song is to connect our inalienable rights to the protection of Mother Earth. Madame Shirley Graham Dubois made her transition March 27th 1977, but many just know her as the wife of Dr. W.EB Dubois. She was a Revolutionary pioneer of the ...arts, advocacy for African people and a Pan africanist and anti imperialist!!!! She was an activist writer at the age of 13! She after graduating Oberlin college, she wrote the play 'Tom Tom" on the journey and legacy of our people and opened her play in 1930s breaking records of attendance 12000 the first show and 13000 the second showing. The 1st woman in the US to do so! She became the co founder and director of the Progressive party and spoke at the opening for candidate Henry Wallace who was running for President of the United States on a socialist platform in 1948! Wallace became advisor to FDR for many of his social programs he introduced which are still in existence today (SSI, welfare, housing program for the poor, to name a few). Shirley Graham was also co- director for the NAACP for 1 yr, then married Dr Dubois almost 40yrs her senior in 1951. They wrote and traveled and soon took President Nkrumah's invitation to become citizens of Ghana and gave up their U.S. citizenship to help build Ghana and Pan Africanism in 1961! She was founder of Ghana Television Network and helped with publicity ,media training, etc. She introduced Kwame Ture, Malcolm X and others coming from the States to President Nkrumah, helping to encourage and cement relationships for the next generation of Pan Africanist. She continued after the coup to write biographies on notable leaders like Paul Robeson, President Nkrumah and Nyerere and others she'd known and she spoke to world audiences against imperialism and colonialism and promoting Socialism! These pictures remind us of the daily work, commitment and achievements especially African women have made towards our struggle! Salute to and long live the legacy of Mrs Shirley Graham Dubois!
