Do you remember this wonderful old plow? It was donated by a former construction team member, and used in 2009 at the groundbreaking ceremony for the south campus building project (pictured). It graced the East Entrance for many years but slowly deteriorated. Recently, residents restored the plow and it is now back in place at the East Entrance of Landis Homes.

We're looking for a Seasonal Grounds Team member to help care for our 100+Acre campus. Starting May/June, FT, no weekends. Must be 18 years old with a valid driver's license. Landis Homes celebrates Volunteer Appreciation Week, honoring our many volunteers who have given of their time and talents in various ways, on and off campus, over this past year. We look forward to the day when we can welcome all volunteers back to our campus, and appreciate the steadfast support of all!

As an Earth Day recycling project, residents organized a Pill Bottle Recycling Day. Volunteers organized bottles by size and cleaned off glue residue on hundreds of bottles! They will be sent to Matthew 25 Ministries in Cincinnati, Ohio for inclusion in their shipments of medical supplies to developing countries. In addition, there was also an assortment of tech items collected for Computers for Refugees. These will be available to refugees, migrant workers, and newly arrived immigrants through the Alpha and Omega Community Center in Lancaster. Thanks to all the residents and volunteers who participated in this successful Earth Day recycling project!

Landis Homes Quilters gathered each day this week for a Quilting Bee to work on quilts that will be sold during this year's Fellowship Day virtual auction in September. We are excited to see these beautiful items coming together. Thank you quilters! Proceeds of the auction will benefit the Landis Homes Caring Fund.

Celebrate Earth Day by making plans on participating in the Lancaster Conservancy's 5th Annual Lancaster Water Week, June 4-12, 201. Landis Homes is sponsor of this event. Leading the way to clean water by protecting over 7,000 acres of wild lands, the Lancaster Conservancy created Lancaster Water Week to connect us all to clean water. As a way of sharing Christmas cheer with Residential Living residents, goodie boxes were created and given out to each resident. Thank you to the 18 team members who assembled 705 goodie boxes, and to the 26 team members who helped with the distribution.

As the holiday season approached, an idea formed from team members about making it possible for every resident in Healthcare and Personal Care to be able to see Christmas lights from their windows. The call went out to all those working at Landis Homes to search their homes to bring in as many lights as possible. Each courtyard was adopted by a group of team members. They brought their collected lights and figurines and filled the spaces! Thanks to all the team members who adopted and decorated an area for residents to enjoy!

Landis Homes goes through a lot of batteries as the team serves residents and keeps the grounds and equipment in good working order. In May, Melinda Miller, Assistant Administrator for Healthcare, reached out to the Matthew 25 Ministries (M25M) to request relief supplies. Matthew 25 Ministries, based in Ohio, provides humanitarian aid and disaster relief throughout the US and around the world. Melinda said, It had been a long time and I was not sure we would see anything. ... So I was very excited to find out we had been selected to receive some AA batteries. As you can image, we go through a lot. Recently a half skid of batteries came, weighing 800 pounds! After determining how many Landis Homes could use, Miller and Adam Gardner, Safety & Security Manager began reaching out to other senior living communities and first responders in the area. He said, All organizations like ours and the first responders are watching their spending. This will be one way to reduce costs while still being prepared. Landis Homes would like to thank M25M for the generous donation! A wonderful day for a race. Using new guidelines to keep runners and walkers safe, around 180 persons took part in the 2020 Corn Pickin' 5K Presented by Oregon Dairy. Funds raised through this event benefit the Landis Homes Caring Fund.
