Happy St. Patrick's Day Round 2!! Recreation staff at our AC Green Center have been busy preparing and delivering St. Patrick's Day treats, as well! Participants received a special delivery of Activity Packets, beads, pins, magnets, and especially love!

It is time for another Participant Spotlight! We are honored to introduce you to our friend, Trish, who has been a member of LIFE Pittsburgh for 7 years! Trish is one of our very talented and creative Participants who was introduced to a new hobby by a friend just before she joined our program and has been dedicated to this hobby for over 7 years now. She is an artist, a crafter, a designer she handmakes cards for all occasions. Most of the cards that she makes are for h...er to send to her loved ones family & friends (including many cards to staff and participants at LIFE Pittsburgh). She also makes bundles of cards that she gives to loved ones, so that they can write them out and send them to their loved ones! She spends a lot of time working on these cards on her own, to keep her active when she is at home, but she also enjoys working on her cards with others. Trish has progressed from her early days of card making, she used to use markers and pencils and now she prefers to use stamps and watercolor paints to create her unique cards. She then adds special touches like lace, glitter, and ribbon to enhance the cards even more! She even started a Card Making Club at LIFE Pittsburgh! She taught others some of her techniques, provided special supplies like stamps, and tutored other Participants with their projects! She is looking forward to returning to the Center so she can spend time with her friends and resume the Card Making Club! When she is not creating beautiful cards, Trish enjoys spending time with her number one fan, her cat, Mr. Finnegan, who is 9 years old! <3 We are lucky to have Trish in our program! See more

Happy Halloween from your friends at LIFE Pittsburgh! This week, our Northshore staff surprised their Participants with 'Boo Ya!' treat bags to help them celebrate! Inside the bags were sweet and salty treats, special Halloween word puzzles and crafts, and a card signed by staff! They were delivered with love by our Recreational Therapist/Pumpkin Shark, Allie and Rehab Assistant, Kathy! Stay safe, stay well, stay spooky!

Distractions are everywhere. Notice what takes your attention, acknowledge it, and then let it go. - Headspace Over the past several months, we have facilitated outdoor meditation groups with residents at two local senior apartment buildings. The residents have enjoyed the opportunity to learn mindfulness techniques and have expressed that the sessions have helped them to feel better and adapt to the many changes that they are going through this year. Participant project update! If you have been following along, you may be sitting on edge of your seat to see what artistic creations our Partcipants have been creating lately! Well, the wait is over - here are some of our most recent 'at-home art & horticulture projects'!

Over the past several months, Participants from our Allegheny Center Green location have been making ‘Ruff Mats’ for dogs at a local animal shelter. ‘Ruff Mats’ are made from woven strips of fleece and a plastic grid and are used as enrichment treats for the dogs. Treats are hidden in the mats and the dogs work to find them. Caitlin, one of our Recreational Therapists, coordinated the project in conjunction with the Humane Animal Rescue on the Northside. Pictured is Karen, one Participant who says she likes making the Ruff Mats because, It’s good for her hands to keep them moving, since she has arthritis! Our participants have enjoyed the process of making the ‘Ruff Mats’ as a way of giving back! So far they have donated over 35 Ruff Mats to the Humane Animal Rescue! Stay safe, stay well. <3
