Tutor Spotlight: Candy S. Candy is Milagro House GED classroom’s newest tutor and she is an enthusiastic addition to the program! We are so happy she chose our organization to volunteer her time. Why did you become a tutor? ... As someone spent much of her career as a teacher, to work with such highly motivated and courageous young women as they work toward furthering their education is very inspiring. Inspirational Friday From a Milagro House caseworker: During one-on-one time spent with one of my school-aged kiddos, we found this fortune. He read it aloud and paused - we took a minute to process and he looked at me and said "my mom is working hard for our future".... This is why I do what I do.

Milagro House GED Program Tutor Spotlight- Jen P (pictured with her star student, Ivine) Jen is the queen of positive reinforcement! Many of our students credit Jen with helping them build their confidence before taking the math test. She is also a bit of a lucky charm- a number of students have passed their tests in the afternoon when they tutor with Jen in the morning. Why did you become a tutor? I tutor because the women of Milagro inspire me. They are strong, resource...ful and willing to work hard. These women give me hope that the future will be better. And, most importantly, we value education as we work together. And we value one another...they bring out the best in me and I help them to bloom. It is my best hour of each week. I am thankful that Milagro House exists in a community that combines the strengths of compassion and collaboration to weather the most challenging of times. We are essential during this unprecedented time because Milagro House serves one of our community’s most vulnerable demographics - women and children who would otherwise be experiencing homelessness and poverty. COVID, however, confirmed what we already knew; that everyone in our community is, indeed, essential. Our doors remain open because of the collective strengths of our community partners, our staff, our stakeholders and our neighbors. All contribute to our ability to keep the women and children we serve safe and supported. This belief in our mission means our impact continues to make positive change in our community. Leadership does not survive without gratefulness. I am not sure how we will ever be able to express the level of gratitude we feel toward this community. ______ Leadership Lancaster grads have always been on the front lines of community leadership. Today, they are leading on the front lines of the current crisis. We watch daily as they serve our community, pivot business models, and build collaborations to make Lancaster County stronger and safer. These are our #HeroGrads.

These Milagro House Moms did not let COVID disrupt their education goals. They successfully completed the Spring semester virtually, passed the TEAS test and have both been accepted into the RN program at HACC. Well done, Kristina and Teresa...we are so very proud of you!
