"We Hair Self Portrait Challenge" Stylists/ Owners (Tag your photo #wehair #wehairselfportraitchalllenge A Self-Portrait During Covid 19... This Is a very impromptu photo of me, taken outside. I had a brief interlude, where I needed to 'break free' and remove my mask (if even for a mili-second). In turn, I wanted to 'free' my hair. What followed? I hung upside down and started making my hair bigger and bigger ( a somewhat crazy look outside in public.) It was a relief to feel the texture, to see it morph into something grande, to be suspended in air, and one with nature (tree behind it). It was a moment of freedom and reflection. A moment of bliss, playing with a textile I love so much. My personalized fabric - a product of the craft I love so much. It was also a moment of anger and confusion - trying to navigate this process of isolation from work and navigating financial support from a broken system. This photo, which is so unusual for me ( I am not a selfie enthusiast), is also a reflection of the industry podcasts I have listened to by my hair mentors and friends. I have been so inspired by talks by so many. My being is so nurtured and excited by the ideas, love, caring and overall humanity shared throughout our hair community. I am filled with gratitude. We, Hairstylists, are Culturists (is that even a word?). We assimilate art, music, fashion, and history - and- we channel it back into society. We are a big part of culture and sub-culture. Engaging in a symbiotic relationship with clients, in which, we both learn from each other and heal each other. We are special. This process is special. Let's work through it together. Fun Clients Make Work Fun. It's not work, if you love it and have fun all day long. Angela is very blunt when she comes in, wanting an edgy razor cut. I razor the whole thing, even the super short sides and back. Looks great with her violet hair and upbeat personality.
