Parkland Garden Club 28.01.2021

Barbara’s Valentine’s arrangement was made through a class on Zoom from Longwood Gardens. The class was asked to make one with three flowers; it was to have rhythm and line in it. When Barbara added the Midolilno they reminded her of hearts. What are you creating for Valentine’s Day?

Luther Crest Parade Saga Thank you to Claire, Brenda, Carol, Mary, Bonnie and Megan for all the beautiful flowers. Mary, Megan and I started decorating my car by 12 Noon. All beautifully decorated and ready to go by l:30, then BOOM - my car would Not START - DEAD BATTERY ( also a dead battery on my camera).... Tom and Mary to the rescue - BUT neither new how to open their car hood, out came the Owners Manuals - finally hoods were opened. Tom drove Mary's car over my neighbors grass, but could not connect the cables - meanwhile I am calling AAA for emergency help, they would be here by 2:30 - TO LATE. Tom then drove his car over neighbor's grass and he was able to start my car and we were off by 2:05. Traveled on Tilghman St. with people honking & waving at our flowered car. When we arrived at Luther Crest the parade was almost over, so we joined the end behind the horse draw carriage of Santa and Mrs. Claus, BUT in between emergency vehicles and fire trucks. All the residents were laughing, waving and taking pictures of a flowered car between emergency vehicles. We made a lasting impression---- Thank you's were given to us bye all and we gave all the flowers to Brandon for the residents to decorate their rooms. Megan will send her pictures to us. MERRY CHRISTMAS, Cynthia See more

Went to The Berry Farm this afternoon & wanted to let all PGC Mbrs. know-tomorrow is the last day it will be open this season. There's a big pumpkin/gourd SALE, if you haven't gotten any yet for Halloween! After tomorrow everything will go to produce auction! Was never there before and is very easy to find, was 1/2 hr. drive from Miracle League Field, Schnecksville. Google Maps states is 28 min. (20 miles) from my address & was a really nice drive, on such a nice day, both ways today! The woman, Donna, who lives on the farm, makes gorgeous quilts, as you can see in middle pics. Last 4 pics are of the property & our trip. I asked Donna if she belongs to a garden club! This SALE is such a great deal & had to share with everyone. Meg & I were like kids in a candy store! Enjoy!

You remember Stacey Mullen put on a program at PGC about fruit trees, sorry don't remember the program title, but her daughter Emily had to walk around through the crowd holding the laptop for people to see the PowerPoint presentation, bless her !

We have just a few pots of seaside goldenrod left for the season! If you have space for a 3-5’, non-aggressive clumping species in a full sun consider adding th...is! It is among our showiest goldenrods with big individual florets and attractive foliage. Prefers well drained, moist to average soils, grows well in sandy soils too. Rich soils will cause the plant to grow quite tall, sometimes over 7 foot. Because of the large inflorescences, staking may be considered if it exceeds its average height. This has also become a favorite cutting species for me, seems to hold up longer in a vase than many other goldenrods. Again, only a few left, so may want to call ahead.
