The Scranton Canoe Club wishes its members, staff, venders, and friends a happy & safe holiday season!

Today marks the official end of the golf season as the covers were placed on the greens. Many thanks to Pat for keeping the course open so late in the season, and thank you to the volunteers who helped cover the greens.

The Board of Directors of the Scranton Canoe Club created a special membership category to help cover the construction costs of the proposed pavilion. This membership category is open to current and new members and limited to 1 membership. Details are below.

This last Sunday was our last tournament of the year our Men's Closing Stag. In the end Ryne Luce and Tony Libassi came out on top by shooting a 6 under round of 54. In second came Bill Mcdermott and Dave Rees Jr. with a 55. Rounding out the top three was Warren Rozelle and Mike Vassil with a 56. Last Thursday, October 8th, twenty-eight members of the WGO attended the Closing Day golf game and catered lunch on the porch of the clubhouse. Prizes were awarded and this year's board members, led by Pat Mould, were thanked for their efforts in making it a terrific year. Thanks to all those who helped make it a great day! Well good thing the Norte Dame Fighting Irish won this week because unfortunately the Irish didn’t fair to well this weekend against the World team In our annual International open. The World team prevailed over the Irish by a large margin. I would like to thank our captains Mike Hopkins (Irish) and Chris Calder (World) for all their hard work over the weekend. Also, thanks to bagpipers and drummer who came for opening ceremonies! It was a great weekend for all!

The winner of last evening's 50-50 draw was Grace Garvey. This is her second win of the season. Congratulations Grace, and thank you to everyone who participated!!!

This last weekend was our 2020 Fall Classic. In the end, defending champions Ryne Luce and Mike Hopkins defended their title by shooting a 2-day score of 5 under. Ryne and Mike birdied 5 out of their last 6 holes to edge out our runner ups Barry Westington and Corey Calvert who shot a 2-day score of 3 under. Bill Mcdermott and Dave Torissi shot the best round of the second day a 4 under 56 to jump up the leaderboard to take third place. On September 21, the Club held its annual meeting where the Board presented its annual review. Board election results were announced that current Board members Chris Calder, and Vince Abruzzini were elected to a 3 year term. Bill Gross and Jerry Dougherty were newly elected to a 3 year term replacing former Commodore Bill Bender, and former Board Member Mark Scappatura. We thank Bill and Mark for their exceptional service to the Board The Board unanimously elected Mike Hopkin...s as its 100th Commodore, and Chris Calder, and Harry (Butch) Schmaltz were unanimously elected Vice-Commodore, and Secretary, respectively. At the meeting, the Board announced the start of a fundraising campaign to raise the money needed to build a pavilion next to and attached to the current patio. The pavilion will be used to create additional safe outdoor dining options for our members and guests. The pavilion will also give us the ability to increase revenue by becoming one of the premier wedding and special event destinations in Northeastern Pa. The project is expected to be completed by early Spring 2021.

Congratulation to the WGO for raising over $1,500.00 at their Golf for a Cause golf outing benefitting the Lake Winola Fire Company.

Over the weekend was our Men's Club Championship and our Super Senior Men's Club Championship. There was great golf played in both divisions. In the Men's Club Championship, defending champ Ryne Luce captured the title again firing a two day total of 116 (4 Under). Corey Cuneo was second with a two day total of 128 (+8) and Jerry Dougherty was third with a two total of 130 (+10). In the Super Senior, Ed Bugno won the title with a two day total of 141 with Danny Cassaro coming in second with a two day total of 143. Great playing by all and congratulations to our winners!!!

What a great weekend it was honoring our current Commodore Bill Bender and commodores of the past. Thank you for all that you have done for the club. Our 2020 SCC Commodore Dinner honoring Bill Bender as our 99th Commodore, and his beautiful wife Maureen, was a night to remember! We also honored new members, current Board Members, and past Commodores. Everything - the setting, tables, dinner and music, the waitstaff team, and even the speeches - were superb! Thank you all, and especially Maureen and Bill, for such a special evening.

Another great weekend of golf at the Scranton Canoe Club this last weekend as we had our Junior, Women's and Senior Men's Club Championships. In the Junior Division Michael Bluhm took the title with Ana Galko finishing second and Nathan Wescott placing third. In the Women's division Happy Daily Hazelton came out on top over second place finisher Marci Mcdermott and third place finisher Heather Bluhm. In the Senior Men's Jerry Dougherty took down a tough field to win the title. Finishing second was Warren Rozelle and in a tie for third was Don Ames and Barry Westington. Congrats to all who played!

Wow! What a special night it was for the Bluhm Family!! Dad, Michael Bluhm had his first hole in one on hole #7 with his wife, Heather and his two sons Michael and Max playing along side of him. What a special moment. Congrats Mike!!!

Congratulations to this year's Women's Member-Guest Champions Bette Connell and Linda Sproul who shot a great round of 71 to capture the title. In second place with a 75 was Mary Fox and Terry Wise. In the first flight, Ellen Bugno and Shirley Pettinato won the flight on a macth of cards with an 85 over Jen Kester and Sue Dwyer. Thanks to all who played!! Wow!! What a week and weekend we had at the Canoe Club!! First off congrats to our 3 members John Grow, Bob Riley and Danny Cassaro who had hole in ones this week! On Friday, we had a great time at the Ladies Chip and Sip!! Congrats to Leslie Cadden on winning the putting contest! Thanks to all the ladies who participated! Over the weekend, was our Annual Member-Member tournament which was won again by Huck Tench and Kevin Bender. This is their second year in a row winning this great event. Also, congrats our runner ups Dave Rees Jr. and Mike Bluhm. Also, I would like to thank Jerry Dougherty for all his hard-work in helping putting this event together for the last 4 years! It has become a spectacular event at the Canoe Club!
