South Williamsport Fire Department 2021 Fire Officers: Chief - Daniel Smith (5) Deputy Chief - Jeff Hughes (1-5)... Captain - Cory Crider (5) Captain - Tyler Dickson (1-5) Lieutenant - Joseph Foster (5) Thank you to the previous officers of SWFD for the service and dedication you’ve provided!
It is with profound sadness that the South Williamsport Fire Department announces the passing of retired Chief and current South Williamsport Mayor David Lechniak due to complications from COVID-19. Dave's life has been centered around service to his community. As a long time member of the department he has held various ranks including serving as Chief of Citizens Fire Company #2 in the late 90's. Most recently he has continued his public service as Mayor. Dave had an infectious laugh and personality that always made people gravitate to him. He will be deeply missed. We ask that you pray for his family during this difficult time.
Don’t forget to shovel 3ft around hydrants in your neighborhood!!
There have been several accidents reported throughout the area. Please, if possible, stay home. Members have spent a good portion of their evening clearing the ramps to ensure we’ll be able to get out if needed.
Due to the impending weather forecast, the Borough is asking residents to keep a few things in mind: If possible, residents with off street parking, please util...ize it. Do NOT park in cul-de-sacs. Cul-de-sacs are difficult to plow even with just a single vehicle parked in it. Remember that after four inches of snow the odd/even parking ordinance is automatically in effect. Please DO NOT shovel or snow blow any snow back into the street. This is a safety hazard and is illegal. If you have fire hydrants near your property and can, please help the fire department out by shoveling around the hydrant. You can go to the South Williamsport Fire Department Facebook page to see their post on what is the best practice of how to keep the hydrant clear. Plan ahead, if you do not need to be out during the storm it is always best to just stay home and off the roads. Above all, we ask that our residents be patient with us and the plowing crews. Please refrain from nasty comments. They will be deleted. See more
With the holiday season in full swing, here’s a couple of fire prevention tips!
There is significant snowfall in the forecast this week. If there is a hydrant near your house take an extra couple minutes to shovel around it. A couple of minutes now will make a huge difference if there is an emergency.
Check out the South Williamsport Fire Department 2016-2018 review video! It features videos and pictures of training, responses, social functions and much more, all since the department was newly re-formed.

We were happy to give the reindeer a break and escort Santa to the Borough’s Tree Lighting Ceremony. A special thank you to Santa and Frosty for stopping by and spreading some Christmas cheer!
Don’t forget to use extra caution when preparing your Thanksgiving Dinner!
We are sad to announce that our 2020 Pictures with Santa has been canceled. We looked at several options to allow this event to happen, but due to the continually rising cases we do not feel that hosting this event would be safe for our community and our members. We hope to resume this event in 2021!
Don’t forget to stop by! Last BBQ of the season!
Don’t forget that our Chicken BBQ is tomorrow!!
Winter made it’s presence known this morning. It may have only been a dusting today but the next time it could be more. Please remember once we get heavy snowfall to take some extra time and clear hydrants near your house.
Ladder 5 assisted with the removal of 3 bears from a tree in the area of Sidney Street and West Pheasant Alley. The bears were not harmed and will be relocated by the Game Warden.
