This evening at the ANF Chapter meeting, President Tina Toole presented the 2020 NCT Honor Award for the ANF Chapter to Dave Kazmierczak and Tom Tefft. This awa...rd honors volunteers who demonstrate loyalty, commitment and hard work annually to support an NCTA Chapter. Tom Tefft has been involved with the ANF chapter for well over a decade. He attends most workdays and hikes. When needed, he’ll step up to a leadership role to supervise a workgroup or lead a hike. Tom is a great ambassador at these events, welcoming new attendees and answering their questions. He is also eager to help out between workdays when trail adopters need help or special work is needed on the trail. Tom is one of our longtime trailwalkers, hiking different sections of the trail and not only reporting downed trees and problems back to us, but often clearing trail as he hikes. Finally, Tom can be counted on to help out with special events as needed, for example registering hikers for the A-100. Dave Kazmierczak has been involved with the chapter for several years. Like Tom, he can be counted on to assist at most workdays and to answer the call for help needed for trail work and special events or to supervise a trail work group. Shortly after joining the chapter, Dave took on the responsibility of adopting a trail section to maintain. Since then he has gone on to gain his chainsaw certification. This allows him to do a great job clearing downfall on his section and help out on other sections. Finally, last year Dave stepped into the role of Treasurer and is doing a great job with that. Thanks for all your hard work, Tom and Dave! We appreciate the time and commitment you give to the ANF Chapter! Congratulations!

Happy Veterans Day! Thank you to all who served.

Mountain bikers take note-- The Forest Service is tentatively looking at the latter part of next week (11-11/13) to complete the controlled burn in the area of ...the Trails at Jakes Rocks. This will impact access to the majority of the trail system throughout the duration of the burn ( one to two days) We will confirm the days involved next week as soon as the FS locks down their schedule. We will try to obtain information as to whether any trail segments will be usable during the burn but access to the trailhead via Longhouse Drive will also likely be impacted. Stay tuned for more details as they become available. See more
