Just a friendly reminder to turn your clocks back one hour this Saturday night to take effect Sunday morning, November 1st, as Daylight Savings Time ends. Also, the Chartiers Township Volunteer Fire Department would like to remind everyone that when you change your clocks, it's a great time to remember to change the batteries and test your smoke detectors!
Found Houston pa. Golden retriever on Grant street. Anyone know where this pup belongs?? She is safe now. Seems her tether broke.

Another tip, this Fire Prevention Week!
Another successful fill a truck! Wow! All we can say is wow! This community is amazing! Things look a lot different this year, but all of you managed to come th...rough! The VFW Post 191, Coca Cola (especially Georgie -our contact), and the Allison Park Elementary Teachers. A special thank you as well to a very kind lady that drove from Washington Twp Fayette County to donate. This year we are adding a monetary donation as well to help with meals, and needs for the older students. Again, thank you. We couldn’t do this without all of you! Happy Holidays, from our firehouse family to yours! See more
The leaves are turning and will soon be falling. The Township has scheduled curbside leaf collection for the following MONDAYS.: UPDATE: Given that the leaves are already falling we will add a pick up for this coming Monday, October 19th! October 26th ... November 2nd November 9th November 16th November 23rd (if necessary *NOTE: If they start to fall sooner or hang on longer, we will adjust accordingly. Please remember that the leaves MUST be in biodegradable bags! Non-biodegradable material in the bags will prevent the Township from being able to recycle the leaves through the composting site, so PLEASE make sure your bags contain leaves only. DO NOT TAPE THE BAGS. They will NOT be picked up if they are taped. Try to have your bags to the curb by the preceding Sunday evening to make sure they are out in time for Monday morning's collection. Contact the Township with any questions or post them as comment because others may have the same questions. THANK YOU for your cooperation in helping to make this program a success!!!!
December 15th, food distribution event at the Washington County Fairgrounds. You must register for this event.
Help the Chartiers Township and Houston Borough Volunteer Fire Departments Fill A Fire Truck again this year with toys for kids in need this Christmas. Donations will be received at the Chartiers Township Volunteer Fire Department (2450 West Pike Street, Houston, PA 15342) and the Houston Borough Volunteer Fire Department (14 East McNutt Street, Houston, PA 15342) on on Sunday, December 6th from 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm. Toys must be new and unwrapped. They will be distributed to children in need within our community in partnership with the Allison Park Elementary "Secret Santa" program. Please consider a donation to make Christmas special for those less fortunate children in our community this year, when so many are in need. THANK YOU!
Light to moderate snow showers will continue for much of the area through this evening, tapering off tonight. Here's a look at additional snow amounts expected ...through the overnight period. Lowest additional amounts are expected farther west where mostly light snow is expected to continue. Much of the area can expect an additional 1 to 2 inches through tonight, with areas along and north of I-80 expected to see an additional 3-5" with greatest amounts farthest north. An additional 3-5" is also expected for the ridges/higher elevations. Due to current snow on the ground and expected additional snow through tonight, the Winter Storm Warning has been expanded to include most counties north of Pittsburgh. See them in pink on the map.
October 4-10th is Fire Prevention Week! This year's theme is "Serve Up Fire Safety!" reminding us to be cautious in the kitchen and help prevent kitchen fires!

The tradition of Trick or Treat will be observed in Chartiers Township on Saturday, October 31st from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The Township is leaving it up to residents to decide whether to participate or not. This is not a mandatory event and families should make the best decision for their own family. Residents are advised to turn ON your porch light IF you wish to participate. ... If you do not wish to participate: turn OFF your porch light. Parents, only visit homes with a their porch light on. Please be respectful for those who have chosen not to participate as they may be vulnerable or they may be ill and are refraining from participating to protect YOU. Here are a few tips to help navigate through the evening amidst the COVID pandemic: IF YOU ARE SICK or experiencing COVID symptoms, PLEASE STAY HOME and refrain from Trick or Treating or passing out candy. Do not leave candy in a bowl for kids to take. It’s best to designate one person to hand out candy, instead of having many children reach into a candy bowl. Pass out treats outside. It’s recommended to position oneself outside to pass out treats, instead of having children ring doorbells and enter your home. Find a spot at the end of your driveway or yard. Treats should be individually wrapped. To avoid any cross-contamination, please consider only individually wrapped treats Face masks should be worn. It is recommended that both those passing out candy and those Trick or Treating wear masks while doing so. (If there's one holiday where masks are accepted, it's Halloween!!) Avoid traveling in large groups and maintain social distancing. Be patient when others are collecting their treats and then proceed. Utilize hand sanitizer throughout the evening. Carry it with you and have it handy. To sanitize treats or not. It is not recommended to sanitize packaging and groceries. The transmission of the coronavirus on these types of surfaces is low. But, if parents want to sanitize the packages, they should. Anxious parents should not participate. It’s best to buy your own Halloween treats and give to your kids instead of being anxious about participation. Ideally, Trick or Treat in your own neighborhoods. We know the candy hunt is a quest, but considering sticking close to home this year. Items to bring during treat gathering. Bring hand sanitizer and require kids to wear masks. Also, don’t forget flashlights, glow sticks, or any reflective material on clothing. PLEASE, be safe, be respectful and have fun!
